Its a fungus. Not too sure why it appears on some wood but i think fish and shrimp consume this or it just disappears on its own after a few weeks.

oops... u mean it disappears on it's own? I threw away 3 pieces of dw thinking that it might spread further...

I had the same experience as you. My yamato shrimps feast on that fungus in just 1 day. Too bad they're all dead because of my Balloon ram.

i noticed the whitish growth on my bogwood after about 2 weeks as i was cycling my tank. i introduced otos and nerite snails and the whitish growth never appeared again.

I also had this problem with some driftwood I bought from 1 of the bros here. It was especially bad during my cycling of 3 weeks. It got thick enough to pick up and hold sand from my substrate even.

About 4 weeks after the tank was up and running it just quietly disappeared by itself. Just leave it alone and it should go away by itself.

Re: Why is there white and sticky stuff starting to grow on my bogwood?

Think is it purely some form of fungus, however there is nothing to worry about. I do encounter this when I first introduce my new bogwood into my tank initially, I even uses a toothbrush to brush it off, but it just comes again, hence I decided just to throw it back in the tank and cycle it, few days later it just disppear, maybe my SAE help me to clear it...
