    Ketapang leaves for Cherry Shrimps?

    Hi all,

    I picked up some dried ketapang leaves from the roadside is is tempted to put one in the sakura/cherry shrimps tank. Have anyone tried this? Does your cherry shrimps picks on the leaf?

    Even for those that you buy from the LFS, you should wash and soak them first. You never know what pesticides have been sprayed on them.
    Corydoras - Sterbai, Leopard, Bronze, Albino, Pepper, Similis, Pygmaeus, Habrosus, Hastatus, Tail-Spot
    Loaches - Clown, Red-Tailed Squirrel, Yoyo, Zodiac, Crimson, Banded/Spotted Kuhli, Zebra, Blue Botia, Kubotai
    Others - L181, C/S/GAEs, Otos, Dwarf/Thai/Honey Gouramis, Spotted/Smiling Cat, Shark Cat, Percula Clown (SW), Cinnamon Anemonefish (SW)...
    Happy Shrimps - CRS, Sakura/RCS, Malayan, Yamato, Green Shrimps, Dancing Shrimp (SW)

    Yes. WIll definitely wash and soak them first. Do you use the green leaves or the dried brown ones?

    i use the dried brown ones. the shrimps will 'nibble' the leaves

    Take note, your water will be leached with tannins from the leaf and will become yellow

    Dried brown ones. I don't feel safe with the fresh green/yellow/red leaves somehow cos of the sap, although some have posted here before that they used the fresh leaves with no ill effects.

    since you are keeping cherry shrimps then dont need to put leaves in as the purpose of the leaves are to lower the ph.

    I am curious about this too.
    would the ketpang leave affect the breeding of my rcs? it does lower the ph.

    I read that Ketapang leaves has anti-bacterial and anti fungi properties, and is soothing for fishes. Since the cherries can take a large PH range, I think I might just use a small piece in there for them to eat.
