    Hello guys,
been rather absent from this forum as i shifted to somewhere far far away...

now my fishes have sparked enough excitement in me to start a new post! hahas

bought them about 1.5mths ago, thought i had success with albimarginata, this sp. shouldn't be much of a problem.

    spawned twice.
    spawn#1 swallowed after 14days,
    spawn#2....

Hiding in a ceramic ring, if you can see it..

    hiding under the moss.

just beside the cr. sorry for all these difficult to see photos, this is just how they are, always hiding away.

    NOT!!! hahaha okay, not funny.

lastly, the tank that made it happen..

sadly, it has been decomm-ed, in the process of setting up a brand new setup for them. this time a much much bigger tank as i am expecting to have a huge army soon

hi marle, the pH was 5.5 due to amazoniaII.
the newly setup tank is 4.8 and the pair has just spawned today... added the male in yesterday only. they're worse than rabbits.

    spawn#1: approx 03/07/09
    spawn#2: 23/07/09 - 06/08/09 ~30fries
    spawn#3: 10/08/09 - ?

@zoggin_eck which part of australia are you in?
yeah its Melbourne. people here don't seem to appreciate wild bettas. maybe i can convert the show betta keepers =)
its not indian almond leaves, its oak leaves that i picked up from the royal botanic gardens.... shhhh~

wild bettas are considered rare fishes in australia.
mainly due to the import and quarantine charges. before you even get the fishes, the fees are already approx 75AUD a pair.

the new set up is going to be even nicer =)
ordered some plants, should be arriving end of this week.
will post once i feel happy with it. in the mean time, thinking how am i going to scape without disturbing the dad.....

    haha thanks to your advises!!
bad news though, i noticed some fries are unable to swim. like they keep lying on the ground, sometimes looking like they are dead. but when i poke them they are alive and kicking. it is abnormal as most of them are hovering and swimming....
    any idea??

feeding them on frozen brine shrimp mixed with microworms.
    is it the food problem?

you gotta order them online..... nice stuff here don't go on sale at LFS.
it is expensive to have an aquarium hobby here. twice as much as singapore.

one fry died cause it injure its tail, other than him, i have 29 left~
    still a good number! =)

    More picture updates of fry!

    fry at 23days after spawn.

transferred them from a pH6.7 tank to a pH4.8 tank in one day without acclimatising. they handled it really well, fed like usual on the same day after the transfer.

initially suspected that some had swim bladder disorder. i guess they did but not because of what i fed, but simply they were in the process of developing it. as now all of them can swim well. though some still fed more that others - one is really skinny =(

here is a shot of the new tank setup!

and i tried my best to get the shot of the brooding male...

    female after the spawn.

hope you guys enjoyed the pictures.

    spawn#1: approx 03/07/09
    spawn#2: 23/07/09 - 06/08/09 ~30fries
    spawn#3: 10/08/09 - 25/08/09 ~44fries
    spawn#4: ???

i am placing them in a 100L tank.
30 approx. 1-1.2cm fry swimming all about and 44 approx. 0.5cm fry in a small breeder trap for easy feeding.

i change water only once a week. should i change more often?
i have cryptocorynes in the tank, will the excessive water change kill them?

    tank spec:
    50x40x45cm tank
eheim 2211 (biohome and dazs mini bio CR)
    pH 4.8

    plants:
    water sprite
    java moss
    narrow ferns
    crypt. crispulata
    crypt. becketti
    crypt. nevilli

soon to have blyxa japonica and etennellus.

Congrates on your successful breeding overseas...!
Wah you're going to hit 100 soon...

Normally you change a full 100% water or 20%? If my case 20% once a week is alright.. As you're using canister should not be a problem just that got to pay more attention to the water if you're changing more than 50% water.
