Hi all, hope this is not in the wrong section...

Was thinking of getting some VFTs in s'pore but in doing my reading realised that there seems to be some conflicting info about the dormancy period as some say that local VFTs do not require this period, but others claim that they grow poorer and eventually die off if denied dormancy so just wondering if some kind person could shed some light on this? For example what is likely to happen in the long run if i just keep it as it is or if i need dormancy what are my options?

    thanks...

no need dormancy just plant in a large pot so it can propagate sideways. the mother plant will die off but the others that stem from her will continue to grow. full sunlight and constant moist substrate req. green culture sg forum has many experienced growers you can get good tips from there.

they really need a lot of sun. when they get sunlight, can see the colour come out in the traps.

if traps green then not enough sun. T5HO lamps some times may not even be enough. grow it like a outdoor plant. full sun, and they will be very healthy and keep growing, big enough will get baby plants.

I got a lot of healthy specimens grown outdoors. but need a lot of water during dry season. wet rainy season, they take care of themselves. no need to do anything. no such thing as rot or what, if rot then just means not enough sun to grow healthy.

43a57 is right. they are bog plants thats why they need really wet soil. the more exposure to sunlight the inner lobes of thetraps will grow to a nice red color. btw what clones are you growing now 43a57?

    just the typical one.
I have 8 plants now. red plants are harder to maintain and are more expensive. gave up on red plants already.
