ok.. my friend is toying with the concept of having a chiller with the following parts.. let me know your comments so that he can consider going into it...

-1/2 horsepower compressor (able to chill up to 4 and above ft)
    -digital LED
    -thermostat

    * main thing, it is open concept, meaning no covers for the chiller, since it is going to be in the cabinet.. but covers can be arranged.

price range might be ard S$900..(i can't confirm this first)

so guys, what u think, is it worth it? S$900 for a 1/2 hp chiller but it is "naked".. coz he figured that since most chillers are in the cabinet, the looks-wise, can conpromise... pls let me have your honest comments, preferably less on the price factor, so that i can forward it to him..

Vinz, if this is in the wrong forum, pls do move it to the right one.. tks.

    Anything diy is worth it!
I'm no rocket scientist but I was thinking, wouldn't the motor heat up? All motors do don't they? A cover would be a good idea, nothing fancy for sure since it's already in the cabinet.

i think the idea is such that, if the chiller is gonna be inside the cabinet, no pt having a good outlook on the chiller.. basically, it is like the coils and all can be seen..( i think something like that).. what u all say forumers?

When he's fiddling around inside the cabinet, he's got to be careful about:
    1. touching hot parts
    2. touching electrical parts
    3. splashing with wet hands, equipment
    4. kids being able to open the cabinet and doing one of the 3 things above

    Other consideration:
    1. How much heat is being generated? Can it affect the operation of filter, safety of compressed gas cylinders, other electrical equpment (overheating), heating up of water flowing true hoses running in the cabinet.
    2. Ventilation.

Errr... and condensation or water runoff from the unit, like our aircon compressors?

There should not be condensation concern since we are cooling water not air.
