    Hi,

Thot of keeping a simple journal on my 1st planted tank.
Not so much on "beauty" but more on getting things stable.

    Tank - 25cm x 25cm x 25cm
Hang on filter with surface water intake
    9W lighting for 6hr daily

    Initial setup

    with Koi swordtails

tank too small for swordtails gave fish away to frens

    Re: My 1st planted

Coming to the 6th week of the tank commission
Besides 1 tetra and 1 sakura death (both the next day after adding),
    there is no other.

    Below is my dosing routine.
    - Seacheam Nitrogen (in place of KNO3. LFS say so)
    - Seacheam Phosphrous (in place of KH2PO4. LFS say so)
    - Seacheam Excel (I'm dosing twice a week. Is it too much?)
    - Seacheam Equilibrium

Dosing below recommended dosage. So far the no impact to the shrimp.
    Will monitor closely.

    cheers

    Re: My 1st planted

oh forgot to add, the fern like plant on the bottom left on the wood melted
my fault that I did not read up on the plant before getting them

and the the tank is snails infested. but leaving them as it is as they do not seems to
    be damaging the plant

    Re: My 1st planted

not sure, is that flame moss? doesn't look like java.
your downoi melted, think it isn't that easy to keep.
the snails may not damage your plants, but could eventually become an eyesore. pond snails breed really fast.

if it;s pond snails, better remove them. See 1, remove 1. Dun give them a chance to multiply, it'll be uncontrollable.

u better removed or crushed them or do whatever to get them out of your tank. i happen to get pond snail in my tank and within a week it lay eggs dont know how many of them without me realizing it. after i removed the snail now still can spot the baby snail .. everyday i need to enlarge my eye ball and spot the baby snails and quickly pluck them out.. dont know how many more of baby snails lurking out there

based on my limited knowledge, the plants should be as follow:

    Behind left - Amazon Sword
    Behind right - ?
    Front left - Downoi
Front right - looks like flame moss with riccia

    Re: My 1st planted

I'm a newbie and still pretty ignorant about the plants and algae. It comes with the
wood and as you can see from previous pics, I actualy bought Downoi which melted
away I still find the looks of the "brush" algae OK but think should read up more
just in case it can spread fast

    Re: My 1st planted

You are wither having flame moss or the-long-thought-extinct erect moss.

    Re: My 1st planted

No CO2. this is a low tech tank.
read up on the BBA, and looks to be some troublesome algae.
It had spread a bit to other plants and I had trimeed them away.

Will remove the whole piece of wood as well.

    cheers
