Have done tis while I am free.
Left is superbright(blue) 3mm, bought at SLT for 60cents each, runs on 4-4.5Volt.
Right is normal(blue) 3mm, bought at SLT for $4.50 for 10, runs on 2.5-3Volt.
Using a US robotic modem adaptor(9volts output)
To get 4.5 volt for superbright, connect 2 in series(no need resistor)
To get 3 volt for normal LED, connect 3 in series(no need resistor)

I have 5 of them in a line across the tank.
Your eyes got to get used to it before you can see the effect.
The superbright have a stronger beam, thus able to light up the bottom better.
