why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

On the surface, it might look ok but in reality the non-indigenous and indigenous species are competing for the same resource that are limited in availability in the water catchment area. What's more the non-indigenous species are given a free ride to the particular living habitat that the indigenous species have been living and multiplying for years or decade and have evolved to suit the natural environment of that particular area. And to make matter worst, some indigenous species only occur at certain part of Singapore and not anywhere else and the introduction of foreign species will put a strain on their natural behaviour such as breeding and feeding. Thus lowering the number of the indigenous species.

the scientists like to play in God's domain. as such, more of this is likely to come. like how the Japs are selling genetically modified purple rose for 10 times the cost of normal roses.

sooner or later, we are going to hear genetically modified humans because of the Human Genome project.
Glofish exists basically because the entire genome of the zebra fish is already known and it makes things easy for scientists to identify where to insert the fluorecent gene.

The only way to find out whether it will damage the eco-system is to feed your Lohan or Oscars with it.
Or offer it to the shrimp and crayfish.
    A glowing crayfish..hmm...........

Anyway, do you guys have another update on the second generation?
The baby frys seem to have a metallic shining spot on it forehead.
No idea whether it will disappear when it becomes a full adult.

    Re: Glofish

incidentally, are they still being sold in the lfs?
sometimes i see some zebras which are red/pink in colour being sold in some lfs.
are we talking about these, or they are different colour fish, like those "tatooed" fishes being sold regularly you know where?
    thanks

Can't really say but I do see them on occasion and wouldn't really took a long look at genetically manipulated or man made ones especially the balloon version.
