    have you read that rice fish has been mutated by taiwan univ and like glo fish


    so how important killi for this research, mutation of killi? glowing killi

    This is very useful for research. We are not so interested in making glo-fish as we are in being able to label specific proteins to see how they are processed or in knocking out or adding specific genes to see what effect they have on the physiology of the cells and organism.

    Similar experiments are being tried with Nothobranhcius but the harder shell is making it difficult.

    This isn't exactly news matey

    Oryzias latipes is one of the most tested-on fish in existence. The glowing form was not really for the pet trade so I doubt you'd see it for sale.

    There are a number of medaka mutation forms around, colours, fins, short-bodied etc.

    Sadly I can only find colour bred medakas, I would rather wild looking ones if I could find them here
