Sorry moderators if this has been asked before but I could not find this using the search facility. How should I place the inlet and outlets if I run 2 filters for 1 tank ? Should we run 2 co2 reactors since we have 2 outlets ?

Actually it depends on your own preference. Giving enough water circulation to your tank will be good. Just experiment with it.

No need to run 2 reactors.

    Golfmad,

I am running 2 filter in my planted. Both are eheim 2213. The rain bars are placed on opposite end of the tank to allow better water circulation. So far it seems to help me quite a bit.

There's no real need for dual filters for a 6 ft tank, (that's the size right?) except for redundacy. I'm running one filter on my 6ft, but I split the outlet to distribute the current and for better circulation. I also have a CO2 reactor before the split so the CO2 distribution is thru both outlets.

Whichever way you position them, the most important thing is to encourage circulation and not fight each other.

One option, position your outlets to encourage complete circulation. One at each back corner. One pointing diagonally towards the front at about 45 degrees, the other pointing along the back wall towards the other corner. (The current across the back wall is good for moss walls too.)

Another option is for one of them to be a rainbar on one of the side walls, near the front, pushing water across the length of the tank. The other outlet at the opposite end, pointing along the back wall towards other corner.

Think on it, there are other possible combos.

    The inlets at both corners.

For Amano, he believes that for large tanks, there should be multiple CO2 diffusors at different locations for even distribution. I'm not sure if its the same if you use a reactor instead of diffusors. Personally, for a reactor, I feel since the CO2 is already completely dissolved at such high concentrations and with good circulation, it does not matter if it's only from one outlet. I practice it only because I'm splitting the output anyway.

Oh, forgot one thing. The flowrate for each filter (if you get 2) should not be more then a little higher then half the recommended flow rate (i.e. 3 x the tank volume per hour). Otherwise you'll end up creating a whirlpool.

If you end up with 1 filter only, I strongly recommend splitting the output.

    Hi Vinz,

You are correct in that it is for a 6footer. Actually, I will be running 2x2028s so it looks like it will be an overkill.

    Rgds, Kelvin
