Totally insane and I find them absolutely NOT pretty at all!

I'm sure we have seen some of these in our local fish shops / farms as well.

BEIJING (AFP) - - Pet shops in a city in southwest China are offering fish tattooed with patterns and lucky characters intended to bring their owners good fortune and happiness.
TOTALLY disagree with that, dye injected fish have alot less chances of living. So when they die its a big sign of bad luck.

Further more, if people mis-treat fish with tattoos like this. why not tattoo themselves instead bring luck ma . its just plain cruel to the fish.

I had accompanied my colleague from work to Pasir Ris Fish Farm this morning. You should see all the 'coloured' tiger barb available for sale. Also, I thought I saw the GM zebra danio for sale there too. I thought these were not released for the general public for fear of contaminating the local water bodies? I might be wrong but there look similar though.

I was at Qianhu just now and i was standing opposite to this employee at the quarantine area looking at how he was using this instrument to inject purple dye into the parrot fishes. It took him less then a min to inject each fish on both sides of the body.... all i can say is OUCH! and ...

oh oh.... and they are not only selling body injected with dye parrot fishes but also, the lips of the parrot fishes with bright red dye too! Made the parrots look like they have lip stick applied onto their lips.

I will love to see people holding down that forever-grinning-Kenny and injecting permanent dye into his lips. And the injection needle must be the thickness of a pencil.

understand fourmers dislike the"Artistic" tattoos of glass/parrot/barbs/tretas fish.

Sad truth is, for money's sake. bussinessman will do what it takes to get as much earnings as they can (so long as it does not harm humans and gets attention of the law). If it was to be having caught attention and gets banned OR has low demand aka low profit will it finally stop.

Well what can I say... people like to manipulate everything. But what I really hope is to enlighten those people to respect nature... It is definately a cruel act!!!

We should all boycott buying such fishes. If no demand, sellers have to rethink.

Re: No no no!! (tattooed fish in china pet shops)

How can we influence everybody to stop buying? I think what we can do is limited. If there's SPCA for dogs and cats, why aren't any for fishes? I think the most effective way is through law enforcements on cruelty to animals... People always like to manipulate with things around us. A long time ago, scientists think that they are helping the whole world by introducing genetically engineered food, i.e. seedless watermelons, bigger and tastier vegetables, high crop yield, etc. But look at now, why are we eating and promoting organic food? What is organic food anyway? People are not realising we are going back, back to the simpliest food that we ate long time ago. Likewise for aquarium fishes, people are doing that because of variety and it looked 'cute' and they can make money out of it without considering that it is very cruel to do that. What if just one day, humans are not the mightiest lifeform on this planet. Someone stronger came to us and inject colours into our skin just because it look good and 'cute'... I think people in Qian Hu and whoever is doing this should wake up!!!
    Regards,

    Desmond

Re: No no no!! (tattooed fish in china pet shops)

Guys, tattooed fishes have been around for a hell of a long time years ago but still it is in demand now. How to stop it? But can we just look at what is happening other than tattooed fishes?

Deformed fishes are also on sale now...what are these?? These are the fishes that some of us in this forums are buying.

Balloon rams, balloon mollies, balloon kissing fish, balloon tetras, balloon cichlids, etc etc...all these are deformed fishes. Any deformed fishes in nature will die at an early stage because they will not be able to compete for foods and escape predators. So other than tattooed fishes, we should also not support deformed fishes.

Furthermore, I remember that years ago when blood parrots were in the market in Europe countries, it was strongly condemned in practical fishkeeping and fish hobbyist magazines. It is because it is a man made fish and they are very against such things.
