It's an apistogramma or at least a dwarf cichlid. The discerning characteristics aren't obvious, probably due to stress.

Not an apisto but its a dwarf cichlid. More close ups, should be clearer now. These fish were outstandingly healthy, best I've seen from this family of dwarfs.
Some very stressed up female Nanochromis sp. or Dicrossus sp.

They were labelled Pelv taeniatus, still young at 4 cm, I had something like 30+ fish to choose from, all wild because in a wild shipment they come in various sizes unlike bred fishes. And they're only $20 each, a steal for good fish.
Eh, how come your pelvicachromis taeniatus the caudal and dorsal no patterns one?. Because its still young? My first guess was pelvicachromis from the face shape but then i see caudal and dorsal dots are missing, so guess for the other genus. $20 bucks is really a good deal for a P. taeniatus. Congrats on your catch though. Nice fishes. Any Nigerian Red?
Also, show us your male pic!
