hi guys~ i have a 1.5ft with mainly HC, some HG and fissiden walls.. is it necessary to have a surface skimmer to keep away those oily water surface? was shocked when i was cleaning my cannister! shrimps were inside even when precaution methods were taken.. only way they can enter is through the surface skimmer.. but i had placed netting around it..

Since you've mentioned the only way in is through your skimmer, I suppose you already have your sponge in place. Wash it often to prevent it from getting clogged or adjust the water intake volume so that you skimmer wont go too low below the water surface.
    Hope this helps...

Used lily pipe or rain piping to agitate the surface of water.

Hmm.. U have a rain bar but currently facing tank wall as it will produce strong current if I change the position.. By doing so wouldn't it cause co2 loss? Im using a reactor..

I did have oily surface when it was even heavily planted.. With amazon swords and some other stem plants with HC.. Now with HC n HG will it be the same?
