Brought 3 nerite snails... few weeks already, ytd trying to locate the 3rd one but couldn't. Now that the 3rd one are missing i am worried that will it die and hidden somewhere and stink up my entire room ?

Also there's another fellow whereby I spotted some peelings/holes on the shell... is it some kind of illness ?

From your discribtion, i thinks that your water is kinda acidic to ur nerite snails. you may try to test the pH level of your water first. Nerite snails like to burrow themself in the soil.
    hope these infomations will helps

Do check in the filter too. I have found mine hidden in the hang on filter before. Yummy algae in there .

Nerite escapees... it does happen sometimes. Not sure if they just like exploring around, or could also be they don't like the water.
But don't worry, if it dies outside the tank, it's too tiny to cause any foul smell .

That's shell rot. Water a bit too acidic, and they need some calcium too.

i think if snails try to get above the water, that means there is something wrong with your water .

yup agree with everyone. something must be not right with the water.. snails generally dont prefer too acidic water.. and it will corrode off their shell in the long run too.. so far my nerite and other snails havent try to escape my tank yet.. maybe u should get something to cover the top of the tank.

I second that. Check the water pH and calcium content (KH?). I have afew and they're very happy as I keep coral chips in the filter and maintain the water at pH 7.2.
Only problem is that they don't have enough algae to eat after cleaning the tank up...they eat faster than the algae can grow! Even the green spots and staghorns were completely mowed away!

So I thought I'll bring one to my office micro tank since that tank has no cleaners in it (although there wasn't much algae either). After cleaning the tank for 2 days, it disappeared one morning.
After searching all over the tank and my desk, I found it on the floor, halfway out of the cubicle! What an escapee. Thinking it was all dried and dead, I threw in into the tank to see if its really dead. In 3 minutes, it was up and about cleaning the glass again

conclusion: good pH, calcium and plenty of algae will keep them from running away

one thing to take note of snails that escape... my experience: dont think they're dead... they are not dead yet, they just locked themselves in.. u should pick up and put it back into the tank.. an hour later or can take longer depend on the snail itself.. they will be back to life... surprise...
