Planning a super nano all naturale setup to include only one fish that can possibly survive low O2 levels...

Have sucessfully done so on my Iwagumi spoof tank which now houses one nerite, 2 Cherries and 1 Wild Bee shrimp... http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=57660

I intend to grow HG and Java Moss in the tank with some bogwood with GEX soil... cleaner crew will one shrimp and one snail... No light or filtration as per the Iwagumi nano just weekly water change and water top off every 2 days...

Which fish will be the better choice for this setup?

    1. Sparkling Gourami (Pygmy Gourami)

    2. Dario Dario (Scarlet Badis)

    3. Betta (Can anyone recommend me any species of betta that is pygmy sized? Normal sized bettas reach 6cm which is too big for the nano)

Perhaps you can try Celestichthys margaritatus which is also known as celestial pearl danio. It is also known as " microrasbora galaxy" even though it is a danio and not a rasbora. Maturing at 21mm, it is a peaceful schooler and prefers hanging about in the plants to zipping around like most of it's danio relatives. It should be small enough for your aquarium.

The Sparkling Gourami are well suited for your project.
Old fish breeder. SA Dwarf Cichlids, Hypancistrus sp L260, L333 and Peckoltia L134 breeder. Also Sturisoma, Dwarf Corydoras spp, wild Discus and Killiefish. Like breeding Characins and wild Betta spp too.

The celestial pearl danio looks very nice, do you know which LFS is
    currently selling them? C328?
    Thanks

Added: I just done some research and realised that it was the same "Galaxy" fish that I saw last week at Aquastar.
They have a tank of maybe 30 of it and is selling @ $2 per fish. May get some next time I visit.

Miniature bettas.. you can probably try Betta persephone or miniopinna. Finding them is another issue altogether. The Sparkling Gourami are best suited for your project, if not Parasphaerichthys species, or even the Licorice Gourami - Parosphromenus species.
    Fish.. Simply Irresistable
    Back to Killies... slowly.

Sparkling gourami are great...cool to hear them croaking in your tank and so cute. Otherwise have you thought of blueyes or threadfin rainbow?

Pseudomugil Mellis, P Getrudae or P.Cyanodorsalis, although all do prefer more alkaline water I have kept in fairly acidic water before. Otherwise Iriathnarina Werneri pair would look stunning!

Re: Which nano fish is better?

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions and all the fish species mentioned are superb...

celestial pearl danios are nice but I dont think they would do too well alone...
betta species will definitely make a meal out of my lone shrimp...
I also thought of notho species killifish but again it might munch on the shrimp...
endlers like guppies are pretty to look at but lack character and wont look nice alone...
scarlett badis will be quite a hassle to feed since they only eat live foods...

    so the winner is...

anyone knows where in sg can i find sparkling gouramis? C328?

Re: Which nano fish is better?

Is anyone interested in buying 4 sparkling gouramis? I know for sure one of them is a female cuz she has spawned with one of the males. There are three other smaller ones that are vibrantly colored, my guess is they are males. It was weird, the female actually bullies the males in this case. I'm making bio-load space for some clown killies. Sad to see them go, but I've been dying to rear some clown killies. I wouldn't mind doing a trade for some crystal shrimp or bee nirite snails
