hi guys! i just got myself a new fire eel for my community tank. the problem is it once leapt out of my tank when i was lowering frozen bloodworms into the tank for it to eat. i think i sort of startled it when i used the chopstick to lower in the bloodworms. and out of shock it leapt out though i manage to find it and save it but ever since yesterday it has been very timid and all and refuse to eat and when i go near it keep retreating back to its hideout. T.T does anyone has any eel rearing tips and advice for me? i really wan to train it to eat from my hands and be not afraid of me T.T will greatly appreciate if someone out there with eel experience can enlighten me.
    Cheers!

Hi bro... since it is new in your tank, let it settle down and feel secure first before trying to hand feed. Think it is still in shock from the leaping, just left it alone for a while. Btw, eels are great escape artist, either leaping or climbing out of your tank... You will have to cover your tank well...

Hi louislkl, you may like to try Y618 or Seaview for peacock and fire eel.

oh my tank is a 2fter and i only have one fire eel. the water parameters seem okay coz his color is not faded and the other fishes are doing fine. well yea i cover my tank now with a lid and all and i just wish hes not tt scared of me. whenever i go near it will retreat into the hideout i made for him. sigh i guess its gg to take a very long time for him to get used>< but i really dunno if hes eating!

oh its only 4 dollars eh i dun dare to take pic.. it still looks scared but will take pic of it once it settles. the price ranges proportional to the size of the eel so a longer and more matured eel should cost more mine is about 8-10cm only hope you find the eel you like. oh and basically from what i read, there are just a few types of eel; fire, tyre track and peacock eel. yupz. :P
    Cheers!

    Re: Fire Eel

hmm not really i usually just surf around and read a couple of websites for more information on eels. basically there shouldn't be tt demanding just tt it takes time to hand feed them and get them to recognize you haha. the freshwater eels usually thrive at a neutral pH and you have to use sand as a substrate coz they burrow pretty often yup. will post some pictures when i can >.<
