Happened to find out one of my cherry shrimp is full of eggs in it's body. What should I do? When will it lay the eggs? When will it hatch?

    Regards,

Hi Kevin, no need to pay too much attention if you have enuf cover for your shrimplets. You'd soon see more shrimpets than you thought possible. Just give the girl a few weeks' time: 3+ weeks, perhaps? Now just make sure you wrap your inlet with a mesh so the shrimpets won't get sucked in. Otherwise, just wait and enjoy the growing shrimp population!

    Question

Sorry, what cover are you referring to?

sorry, should make it clearer: moss cover ideally. Do you have fish in your tank? If you have, then it's advisable that there's somewhere the shrimplets can hide.

    Hi Kevino,

I felt that this belonged more to the Fauna section, so I've moved it there. Hope you don't mind!

Basically leave the shrimp alone, they'll give birth, and all you need to care about are the shrimplets not getting harmed.

Thanks. No worries. As my is a newly setup tank, see attached. And it has no fish in it but 2 otos. Do you think is safe enough?

any sinking pellet, preferrably of vegie-base (some of mine are trained to take floating ones)
if only a few in a tank, no need to feed

Shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure you'll have a bunch of baby cherries in a few week's time.

Hikari algae wafers work wonders for me. You may want to give it a try. But do resist the temptation of over feeding them .

    Smile

Spotted one female Yamoto shrimp having tiny green eggs in its body in my 1ft cube tank (base covers with 1.5" thick of Taiwan moss & Java moss). I use 2 low power mini-internal filters & DIY CO2. Should I cover the filter inlet too?

I feed them aglae wafer occasionally. Should I do nothing and just wait for the good news?

May not hatch.Yamatos need brackish water (between salt water and fresh) water for the little shrimps. That's the natural habitat.

I have two of my yamatos carrying eggs...been a while. But a couple may survive. Depends on luck.

This morning, I was pleasantly surprise to see female Yamoto shrimp hatched into hundreds of 'little-shrimp', ~ 3mm larvae, floating all around (as photo, those tiny 'white-dot').

The question is some of the larvae also got suck into two of the internal mini filters, would it harm or kill hte larvae and what I need to feed them?

    Thank you..

i saw one of my yamoto carrying egg last nite Pretty happy. it's like blackish leh, not the green colored ones according to star-flog. Dunno will hatch or not. Hopefully I will be as lucky!

Anyway my tank is like a forest, think even the fish will get lost, so I don't suppose I need to do anything special for the shrimp if they do hatch?

My filter is covered by a layer of moss, so should be ok.

1 question tho, will the female lay the egg somewhere? Or will she carry the eye till it hatch?

Must pray hard tat most will survive if they hatch

It is somewhat dark-green toward grey-black. Difficult to describe, but you know what I mean.

In my case, the female carry the egg all along and 'sudden' disappeared and then can see many little "white-dots" floating everywhere. I hope those will survive will be nice.
Checked this morning, can see the little tail already. I don't do anything special and hope for the best..
