Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.
i dont know where to buy jellyfish, but i do know that at bedok jetty, during jellyfish season, u can haul up tens of jellyfish
You do realize you need a fairly complex system and how involved it is to keep jellyfish alive long term right?
They are not easy to rear, but having very deep pockets will help a lot.
For a rough idea of whats involved and what a Kriesal is:

I've been wanting to try this for quite awhile, but am too intimidated by everything I've read.
Bros,
I urgently need 1x transparent live jellyfish.
Its for my school's project.
Anyone knows of LFS that brings in jellyfishes regularly?
If I were to catch it myself, how should I go about doing it?
Thanks in advance,
Fabby
You might have better luck trying the marine LFSes. I don't think I've ever seen jellyfish for sale. If you are planning to collect the jellyfish yourself, I'd advise not to do so. You cannot tell the difference between the species at first glance, and they are highly capable of giving you a nasty sting. It might even be fatal if you came across a particularly poisonous species.
Why don't you pick some other animal for the project?

I can't..
It's my prof's decision as Jellyfishes has 95% water content.
Do you have other species to recommend?
Thanks.
Fabian
Hello Fabian,
In that case, you might as well scour the beaches for jellyfish. Occasionally there'll be swarms. I remember seeing some once at Pasir Ris beach. During the recent Aquarama, I think I saw some fresh water jellyfish, though I doubt any LFS here stocks them.
Perhaps you can try in the marine forums like sgreefclub. Or give a call to fish farms to see if they stock any jellyfish.
Is it a must to stick with jellyfish for the project? If your Prof is adamant on using jellyfish, you should ask him for pointers as to where to get one.![]()

Hi Storm,
Thanks for the input. I have tried several shops at Pasir Ris. They do bring in, however the jellyfishes are coloured.
You mentioned Pasir Ris Beach. How visible is it? Are the jellyfishes close to the shore so that I can wade in to catch?
I have asked my Prof. All I can say its the classic Army phrase "Do not make your problem my problem." But he told me that Pulau Ubin also can catch jellyfish.
Fab
Damn you got one Prof. just out to piss you guys off to find some oddball pet for a science project. I really don't understand why he'd want you folks to get a jellyfish, when they come with some serious stinging power, like the Box Jellyfishes.
Try asking the farms if they can import some freshwater jellyfish, from the genus Craspedacusta, in particular C. sowerbyi.
They are visible if they stay close to the water surface. But some are really small, you'd easily miss them. Most of the time, you don't notice them until you get stung. You can probably catch them at Pulau Ubin, but I don't know if that's worthwhile.
You can try any of the seashore habitats around the island. They tend to be more numerous during certain times of the year. Like lucasjiang said, during the "season" you can easily find them. I think right now is the season, with the monsoon going on now. Probably ends sometime in March? for the season I mean. I might be wrong. Though you must take precautions since I remember the Portuguese Man-O-War Jellyfish does occur in our waters.
Or, you can annoy your Prof. by bringing a packet of dried jellyfish to class.![]()

Boss Storm,
My Prof is a nice guy.. Just that i think he doesn't want to spoon feed us.
What precautions should I take? Wear No.4 with goretex Boots?
Thanks for the info on the JF season. Will try my luck tomorrow.
If I were to bring him a packet of jellyfish seasoned japanese style, I would probably get an F. Triple F (F For FYP) HAHAHHA

Ok from my painful diving experience with jellyfish. Do not have direct skin contact with it. Use rubber gloves. Perhaps some of the adventure shops or pharmacy might sell this solution called 'Stingoes' it's for insect bites and also works on jellyfish stings. You can try beachcombing during low tide and maybe get lucky checking the tidal pools.
Suckerfish no eat poo poo.
ok thanks alot for the advise..
one thing.. what is tidal pools? sorry ah.. :P
Tidal pools are leftover bodies of water, in rocky shore line areas like Labrador Park. They are formed as the tide recedes during low tide. Always good to find some weird animals in these pools. Good luck in your jellyfish hunt, but be careful.![]()

Storm,
so where do you suggest I go? Pasir Ris beach? or ECP?
Go Pasir Ris, the river mouth of Sungei Tampines has a shallow area nearby, you can see them visibly on the surface most times.
Might not be the season yet I guess. Try Labrador Park perhaps?
