    some pieces are really _reaaaally_ small diameters though, so small I don't think 2 cherry shrimp can go in at the same time, heh.

    So you have to strategically open the packs, pull out and look at the diameters as well as to check if its straight through, I thought about trying to punch through with a chopstick or something, but its probably too brittle to be a good idea.

    Wouldnt this be the same as the charcoal that one runs in their filter? Certainly not similar to the charcoal that is used for grilling. Charcoal is a positive thing to have in your aquarium system. It absorbes all kinds of bad components in the water.
