Hi, I'm from Thailand, I am quite new to all of this and was looking for any helpful advice or experience anyone would be kind enough to share with me. I currently have a 150-200 (est.) liter tank (I really don't know the measurements) which I am considering to invest more time and money in. I have a sump filtration system (I think that is what you call it) under the tank. I have a few questions I hope to be answered so here goes. 1) I would really like to use black/white sand in my tank for aquascaping and was wonder if it was fine to put some sort of substrate under it to help my plants thrive then cover it with the sand? 2) The whole co2 business, if I hook that up to my tank how long do I leave it on? only during the day or the night or all the time?

    * I really want to keep a Dwarf Snakehead or two and will be going to the local shop to survey if any of them have em and how much it would cost. Any advice on Snakeheads would be much appreciated as well.

This is going to be my new hobby, I know a lot of sweat is going to have to go into this as well as cash and I'm going to have to be patient.

    Thank you,
    Viphon.

    Hi Viphon,

Really glad to meet another channa fan so near in Asia.

You can refer to a little thread with some profiles ive sourced from different places on the net ( those that i believe useful )of different species of snakeheads covers some dwarfs species and complied them together for reference purposes.

My advice would be, pay attention to the species you are getting, some are tropical, some are substropical and will not do well in high temps above 26 deg. And a species tank only for them.

Hope to be able to share and learn more from channa fans in thailand..

    Thank you, Fingerling
You assisted me with loads of information on Snakeheads. The one I am really interested in getting is the Rainbow Snakehead, I didn't know that there was a difference between 'rainbow' and 'dwarf' but they are, the Rainbow one looks a lot nicer. I went to a local market here in Bangkok, it was hard to find but people were always helpful in recommending shop that might have them, I found other species of Snakeheads but not the one I wanted, eventually I found a shop which are willing to get it for me if I place a order, it would take a month to arrive. I have not placed an order for them yet but soon will once I have setup my tank the way I want it. Just bought new gravel and some ADA soil.
By any chance do you have any experience in Aquascaping? or planted tank?
    Thanks again for your time.
    Viphon.
