    Hi All,

I'm new here to the forum, stumbled upon here while researching on killifish.

And since I'm gonna get them, might as well start with a nice tank before they grow up =) Had a 3ft planted tank 4yrs ago, but after a light disaster and everything melted, was too depressed to start again hehe. until now.

Put together some spares from a good friend and dug up my old equipment like fan, CO2 and etc etc, manage to put together this set, with purchasing only the substrate and plants. Pardon me if my setup sounds weird.. the brands are pretty alien to me too.

    Setup:

    1.5x1x1 Acrylic Tank
    "Experts Choice" External Canister filter
    Custom Soil Substrate
    Boyu 1.5ft 18W PL-45
Pressurised CO2 tank + ceramic diffuser

    Plants:
    Hairgrass around the front rock
    Windelov Fern in left back
I cannot really identify the rest =P

Please let me know of any comments! Thanks! It's still work in progress, might add a few more background plants and christmas moss on the rocks and fissidens in foreground.

Yep, "Custom Soil" is the brand name. Yes I found it weird too, pretty misleading =P

And yep, the ferns are tied to a small piece of coconut husk and just resting on top of the substrate, not buried =)

    Re: Edward's 1.5ft Plant Tank

    Here's an update!

As mentioned, I added fissidens to the background rocks, and some nice christmas moss to the one in front.

There are actually 2 SAEs swimming about and they seem to be doing ok. This shall be the way it'll be for a few weeks to let it mature =)

I want to put some background tall plants for the right back, any suggestions?

    Some more updates!

    Day 14:

Added macro and micro ferts, iron, and some Excel. Along with 3 sticks of root fertiliser around the foreground.

Added some Amazonian frogbits, which I think adds a more natural look to the tank =)

New additions to the tank include 1 oto, 10 yamatos, 2 red ramshorn, 2 nerites. And a whole army of baby snails of different types =P

New background plant added, but might change as I find that it doesn't fit well with the rest of the plants.

Overall, the foreground plants are "running" quite nicely!

    Re: Edward's 1.5ft Plant Tank

tjchan: thanks! had to trim the runners because they're growing into the hairgrass region and the HG is growing much more slowly..

not much change so far, except that I switched the background right plant out -again- but is satisfied now. will update when there're more changes!
