Owning one I have not, but on close inspection I feel IMHO that the heat is more intense for MH..or maybe its a psycho thing..

Could be due to the $ factor that heat had become an excuse for it's unpolularity...you know I think toyotas are better than ferrari...

I bought 2 pendant of 150w MH lamps from a lighting shop near Eminent Plaza then. It cost me $170 each with 6500K bulbs and electronic ballast. It last me more than 2 years without the need of replacing any tubes. It spare my faunas the shock of sudden brightness when my timer turn on. I also no longer need to switch on my lights in the living room between 5pm to 1am.
    Go do the maths.

I use 150W HM for my living room 4ft tank. It bright up the living. No need any more light.

The HM lighting effect is no nice and FL/PL lights has no match..It's really not as hot, if you hang it about 30cm above the water

    see my 4ft setup below

furthermore MH make your tank maintenance easy. More room to work because it is hanged at least 30cm above water surface
