    Hi newbie here,

may i know what type of snail can i add into my shrimp tank? at the moment only keeping low grade CRS.

Another question is, how you all do with the left over food in the tank?

Scoop it out or just let the shrimp finish all of it?

Re: Snail in a CRS tank

if your CRS tank PH low, the shells of any snails you put in will deteriorate over time, keep this in mind. horned snails cleans the glass walls of tanks well but i dun think they eat leftover food and they dun breed in freshwater. Ramhorn snails are great with leftovers food but may also compete for food with your crs and also breed fast. apple snails also eat and compete with food but dun breed as crazy as ramhorn but they grow much larger. Malayan trumpet snails, never keep before but i heard they multiply fast.

Ramhorn and netrite snails are the more popular ones. Netrite will not breed in freshwater, like bro boxedfish mentioned, population cap. What some people do is they remove the snails periodically to place in a seperate tank for it to recover from the thinning shell. Waste food should be removed after a few hours to maintain water quality

I have ramshorn snail. They are good at clear leftover food but they are also very fast to reach the food, at times even faster then the shrimps. They breed very fast too so sometimes when you see them all cluster over the shrimps food, they look gross.

    thank for the advise.

the problem is i feed my shrimp with mosura specialty food ... they always can't finish all the food no matter how small piece i give them.

is it normal or they don't like the food?

    ok noted.

the tank is at my office so i only face the left over food problem during weekend.

Is it ok if i didn't give them any food for 2-3days?

i think should be no problem... better to have them fast for 2 days then have excess food that will contaminate your water

Shrimps go for days of starvation at a time in the wild anyway.. You can break the mosura food into even smaller portions for feeding.

What is the population of your shrimp? If it is small, the food cannot be consumed fast. The reason could be abundant algae or micro-organisms available in your tank. However, if the population is hugh and natural available food could be depleted faster and as a result, commerical food can be consumed fast

Re: Snail in a CRS tank

population not where big due to small tank but i do keep some moss in the tank so i guess the shrimp manage to find some food there.

Anyway follow some member advise put in food for the shrimp and after few hour take out manually the leftover food.
