Very aggressive female betta.

I got a female betta few weeks ago at C328. Well, the uncle said it's female. cost $4.50, which is quite ex but very nice compared to those that cost 50 cents.

Female can be identified with a white dot on its belly and I think there is one. However, it's very aggressive. I put it in the community 2 ft it seems to be fine with other fishes. However, when I put my male betta inside the 2ft tank (within a breeder), instead of the male flaring at the female, it's the female flaring at him or trying to court him.

I got a $0.50 female betta to keep her company but when I introduced it into the 2 ft tank, it's been chased by the aggressive female the whole day.

So I was wondering if it's really a female. Are female betta usually aggressive?

Bettas are aggressive whether male or female.

Mine is VERY aggressive.

I am afraid that the male betta will be bitten by her when i let them breed.

Get a bigger and aggressive male. Should be ok. Good luck.

Some females are just plainly very aggressive, it boils down to each individual fish. There are other ways of checking the gender like males having thicker ventrals and thinner body shape etc. You might want to check those out.

Big tank with ample space and hiding locations should be used to prevent casualties.
