hi to all bros , just need to clarify some doubts about the light duration.

Do we on it for 8 hours straight or we can split them like 4 hours in the day & 4 hours at night for the water and equipments to cool down for few hours?
    Will it affect plants photo?

Currently using T5 4x54W for 4ft tank only 2 tubes on. Highest temp with lights and fan on is about 29 c after 8 hours. Lowest temp with fan on but lights off is about 26 c.

    Thanks in advance

8 hours straight would be better. 29c is fine for most plants in my experience.

Thanks Tristan. just wondering if anyone here is using that method ... will adding another fan helps to lower another 1 or 2 degree when lights are on?

    Re: light question

I'm using a photoperiod of 3 hours in the morning and 5 hours at night.
That way , I can view my tank before going to work and after coming back from work.
That way, it wouldn't be o taxing on my fauna as my air pump will turn on when my lights & CO is turned off.
Only funny thing is that pearling doesn't seems to happen in my tank.

yap. same for me... it feels good to see our plants are doing fine before we are off to work right ?
But I can't see anymore pearling after I change the photo period to 4 hr in the day and 4 hr at night. I guess I will have to do more adjustments on the time for photo period or workout something else to cool down the water.

I do feel that it is better to follow nature. In terms of lighting period from the sun. Plants come from nature. I do feel that turning on the lights from 10am to 6pm to try follow the way the sun rises and sets makes not only the plants but fishes feel more comfortable. I know of some hobbiest who mimic the natural sun period very constantly. They start from low light from 7am and increases the light gradually, full light face from 12pm to 4pm, and slow things down after which. Course lots of timer and individual light switches comes into play. May I suggest using LED lights for night viewing to mimic moonlight.

What about the voltage for lamp? I'm using Atman 7W lamp for a 18 litre tank; 359 x 220 x 329mm are the dimensions.

    Re: light question

Are there any particular type of LED aquarium lights recommended at Clementi Floral or any LFS?
