Hi can expert give me advice on your lights and co2 operation hours you guys have?
I use to on it 1 hour alternately like 1, 4, 7, 10….. For 8 hours to reduce to heat from my PL light as that tank is concealed. But have be disturbed by the on and off light so leave a 2” gap to dispense heat.
Currently I on my lights and co2 from 8pm to 4am as I don’t find the needs to on it in the day time moreover it can act as a night light in the living room.

    I use 2 difference setups

    Tank 1
    7am to 11am then 1.30pm to 5.30pm = 8 hours

    Tank 2
    5am to 9am then 6pm to 10pm = 8 hours

Plants need blackout period. Not a good idea to leave it on through the night

I used to use timer, 8am-12nn (ON), 12nn-3pm(OFF) and 3pm-8pm(ON AGAIN). But I got hair algae growing.
So, I ON a day and OFF a day, alternately.

Well, it does, a little. Sometime I just never turn-on the light for a day. Well the plants definitely can take it for 1 or 2 days without lights.

Re: Lights and Co2 operation hours.

    For me:

    12-1pm 1 hr
Strongest light in the day? Perhaps not, tank is away from direct Sun. Just want to enjoy it if I am around.

    4/5pm to 10pm 5 hrs
The romantic evening just got better with the lights on. I can enjoy the fishy scenery and light up my living room. 10pm of course, need to sleep, fish need to sleep too, encourages one to sleep early.

    What if algae grows?
Shut light for 3 days or until most of the algae is lesser, leave some for the fish, no lah, little bit of algae looks nice also. If not, hot water treatment on the drift wood. Some will use bleach, confirm effective but must be careful to wash it very very very thoroughly.
