how much is it? what so good about this brand?

heard its not very accurate as in when the lights are on, the ph will change.

Treat your fishes like your baby. The sign and symptom is the same but cannot talk.
Go nature
I agree, when there is light, photosynthesis takes place, CO2 is reduced and ph increases. That means the meter is sensitive.

Is there a need for calibration using liquid solutions over time to maintain the precision?
Your observation is correct, but the conclusion drawn is wrong. I just got my snail brand pH meter this morning and after I put in the probe, the pH is 6.0. The reading throughout the day is stable. However, when my chiller kicks in, the display will either jump from 6.0 to 6.5 or 5.7 and eventually come down to 6.0 within seconds. Same thing happens when my chiller stops kick-in. I wouldn't say the readings are inaccurate because no matter what the display will stabilise within seconds. Unless your pH readings do not return to the original pH readings, it is still correct.
The running of digits are either due to a higher current drawn by another device which is using the same power source or electromagnetic wave transmitted by the other device. Just my hypothesis, may not be right. This might not happen to other brand as they use batteries (no other interference).
