Yupe, they indeed are very small...
About 5 cents big when i first bought them.
Kept pumping them with brine shrimps and tetrabits.
Keeping my fingers crossed for now.

Getting into Fishy Business
Bigger already after a week of pumping them with brine-shrimps and tetrabits!!
Can say about size of 10 cents already.
I feed them 5 times a day.![]()
This year's altums very stable...a far cry from the ones we had to acclimitize and lose last year. congrats!
Yah , true indeed.
Maybe more preparations done to climatize them into my tanks.
Like aging the water and maintaining the water quality.
Hope i can rear them up to gigantic sizes like some of the bros in AQ Forum!!
My Altum Angelfish Updates after 1 month.

Very nice....
How do you do it..???.... (rhetorical)... but really, HOW...???
Great work...
did you treat the fish with any meds when you 1st got them..?? if YES what did you use..???..
in your starter post the pics show the water to be tea coloured.. is that from peat or ketapang..??.. if neither, then what did you use..??
the filaments on the dorsal fin of ALL your fish are in GREAT condition.. How..??..
also, I notice from your pic that you just use the sponge filter.. ???.. or does your setup also have a canister ..??.. I ask bcos I am wondering how the sponge filter manage all the waste ...??.. or is it daily water change..??
sorry so many questions.. many thanks...

Thanks for the comment bro!!
Allow me to share my past 1 month experiences.
I started preparing for the altum season by aging the water in a normal 2FT tank for 1 week( half-filled) before i got the Altum Angel.
Then transferring them into the tank using the drip method. I did not pour away the actual water from the original package , about 3/4 tank filled with water now
( btw , the reading from the water in the package when i got them was , Nitrate 0, Ammonia the third level reading, kind of dark green, and ph at 5.8 from my test pen).
Feeding done for the 1st 2 week was 3-6 times a day.
Feeding brine shrimp, frozen bloodworm and tetrabits.
Aged water was prepared using those 19 litres water dispenser or normal red pail will do the trick. I added about 10 pieces of ketapung leaves, 10 drops of tetra blackwater extract , 20 drops of Genesis Anti-chlorine and 10 drops of Protozin Whitespot & Fungus.
Adding an airstone to aerate the water.
Water change was done every 3 days , everytime change about 30-40% , then top them up to the same level till now.
Btw, i use only spong filter for my tank, 2 to be exact.
Thats all i did bro, no special method or medications.
Hope it works for you guys!!!

beautiful altums Sir. I saw some today that were pea to dime sized but not looking well so I didn't get any. Even at $15.
From from Houston to Montreal they have had tiny ones this year and there are some quarter sized that also did well.

thanks Augustine...
super stuff you got there... and I don't just mean the fish... great handling..
Jerry

can someone update whether C328 still has altum?

Was there yesterday, newly arrived altums in pack of 5s
Around 50 cents coin - sori did not ask pricing because never like the idea of "prepacked" fishes other than feeders
Hi everyone,

CHeers..

It is good too see and hear about new Altums doing well.
It has taken some time to get everyone involved from the collectors to the hobbyists up to speed on how to best handle Altum Angelfish but it looks like more are using better husbandry techniques because it has been nearly world wide reports of good experiences with the small Altums that were so common this season. The shop keeping them at a pH of 5.8 is evidence that they are making an effort to provide more normal water chemistry for Altums. Historically, most people failed to realize they had to provide Altums what the need instead of trying to make the fish adapt to condition that are easier for th shops. Eventually they have to if they want to make those sales to their customers asking for Altum and they don't want to deal with shop and customer losses caused by poor husbandry. That was how it had been but people are learning.
I think you set your tank up very well for growing out your Altums similar to the best way to grow out small Discus before trying to keep them in a planted tank with a substrate. Altums should have fine white quartz sand substrate not too deep so as to avoid anaerobic substrate conditions. 1 inch is enough and keep your main show plants in the pots.
Old fish breeder. SA Dwarf Cichlids, Hypancistrus sp L260, L333 and Peckoltia L134 breeder. Also Sturisoma, Dwarf Corydoras spp, wild Discus and Killiefish. Like breeding Characins and wild Betta spp too.

anyone to seaview? they are still advertising on sat paper.
hows their altum?
thinking of adding few more into my tank.
