    hello guys again.

i'm setting up my 3 foot shrimp tank as advised by all you peeps.

But now i have another question. I have taken a look at silane's blog and the 'how to set up under gravel filter' section. And i have a few questions.

    1) What kind of gravel do you use?
    2) Am i right to say that size of gravel used has to be large enough so as to not fall through the gaps in the under gravel filter?

Those are the two questions i have now.

Any and all input would be much appreciated.

    Cheers!!!

hi there, just place those plant netting over the under gravel filter before you place your soil on top. as for your soil, try to get those bigger in size on the netting before placing those smaller ones. Remember your old sea mud soil.
-don't rush into it, do it step by step-

If you are worried that gravel will fall through, you can get green net to go over it.

Select those soil that has mid to large size grandules to fill below and use finer one to go over it if necessary.

Just to let you know,if you are planning to plant the tank, it would be best to go without an undergravel. Sucks up nutrients for plant roots

plant netting u can get from any florist. if you worry that some smallest size grain will get into the filter, you can actually use a stainless steel netting ( those we use in kitchen ) to remover those loose/tiny soil first. if not, just put 2 layer of netting on top of the under gravel filter.
-will be doing this the next tank, too rush for my 1st 2 feet-

This is actually a good idea. Get small mesh size to get rid of powder. Then mid size mesh to separate small size to large grains.

Put large grains near to UFG plate, then smaller grains on top.
