    Hi Jovian,

Most probably it is air bubbles trapped in your filter. You can try tilting your filter gently to force out the air. My Atman 3338 has been running for 2 months and it is very quiet. If the noise still persists, you have to bring the filter down to the LFS to check.

Where did you buy your filter from?

    Jovian,

I agree the sound between trapped air and broken impeller is different. I had those very loud knocking sound in my eheim filter before. Opened up and found the magnet surrounding the impeller cracked.

One of the best way for me to check whether the noise comes from air trapped inside my Atman filter is to take out my outlet point from tank and put it inside an empty pail at a lower point compare to inlet point. This will start the water flowing even without filter running, and flush out all air into the pail.

You can run your filter in this way for a minute or so to check whether noise still there. If so, probably mechanical part is the problem.

Another thing. I've also experience noise when I stuff my filtering wool too thick, get caught on the rotary motor. Might like to check this too.

Depending on when you bought it, if recently, you will be able to bargain for an exchange.

bottm sponges orgi sponges pls 1 thick layer of kitchen soap sponges.
middle c ring w black sponge

    Sorry, perhaps I'm not clear.

Switch on your pump with your outlet hose at the lower point on the empty pail. Run for short time to hear whether noise still there. This is manual priming. In few secs after switching on thus, excess air should have flush out and you should not be hearing any noise.

If so, then you've to check the top tray, make sure those media doesn't get into the way of the rotary blades. If not sure, just temporary run with the top tray empty(without media) and try test run the pump using manual priming method again. Also ensure all your trays are properly seated on top of each other when you put it back. You can see this through the translucent platic body.

Can't guide you for the media arrangement, since I'm not into marine tank. Perhaps other can help.

Not sure which part you're mentioning. That might be the catch for the rotor, meant to be rough... Saw my last edited message? Try manual priming with empty top tray, and see how.
