i won't comm terapins with guppies , they do eat fish .
Hi everyone,
I am thinking of setting up an vivarium.. and was thinking of having a small pond at the side..
I was wondering if i cud keep terapins and fishes (guppies etc) in it. can they live happily together. scared the waste from the terapins can posion the fishes..
and if i can't, if i were to keep terapins in the pond.. can the terapin waste also affect the plant health, wud the water filter help this at all etc?
any advise?
Thanks!

bro would advise not to do so.
Reason: they eat ones they can catch when hungry, making only feeder or fast swimming ones the only 2 types you can keep

My friend keeps a small terapin in a tank with guppies, It will eat the guppies if it can catches them (we have to immobilize the guppies before it will eat them) I have never seen it eat a guppy otherwise. The tank is 40X15 cm and has 3 guppies initially, now it has more than 30.
Terapins will grow quite large and unsuitable for vivariums in a short while. Perhaps if you look hard and far you might find newts which are more suitable. Some of the smaller freshwater crabs might make interesting pets too as they spend alot of time out of the water.
Suckerfish no eat poo poo.
thanks guys for the advise..
hmm fresh water crabs sounds like a gud idea... but they do grow big too rite? besides where can i get one? catch myself.. or aquariums got sell?
newts.. hmm i'd love to.. but i dun think my wife will like it.. haha.. u know.. some girls.. =)

local fish shops do sell freshwater crabs. you can try C328 or Y618 for a start.

Terapins will be happy but guppy and fishes will live in fear.
I used to keep Terapin in my 3FT planted tank years ago, I removed the Terapins when I saw it ripping the stomach of the fish and eating it alive..![]()
terrapins dont grow that fast. my younger bro bought his from a LFS, the typical sized one. lefted it in the koi pond to grow. took nearly a year and a half to grow slightly bigger then his palm, bro was 16 then. depends on how much you feed it too of cause. and they do eat fishes even feeder crickets. tried before. they outsmart/chase their pray across the tank.
waste wise, they shit alot. and its damn smelly. also, they seem to only shit when in water. they must have water and a raised area to rest on.
its funny how the gf always nags when purchasing at the LFS, but displays so much interest in the tank at home. waaaa the shrimp so cuteeeee, buy a few more friends for them leh.... - .-
they shit alot andd eat th guppies.nt a gd idea. get some vampire crabs![]()
