Anyone else has this experience? Just bought 2 cheap juvenile angels
and the moment they enter the tank, the yamatoes started to grab their trailing pelvic fins!

Quite horrid watching the angels struggling to shake the yamatoes off while they cling on to the thread thin fin tips.

Today only one angel left and half of its bottom fin is gone.

Should I buy bigger angels but will they eat my yamatoes, cardinals, furcata and lampeyes instead?
Tank is 2ft so can't have too many angels right (at most a pair?)

p/s: looking for half-black angels anyone seen recently?

Most likely a misidentification of shrimps...my large yamatoes did not exhibit such behaviour before..

    No lah, nature.

Most of us know that yamatos do not normally exhibit agressive behavoir towards fishes, but ghost shrimps do.

well I've been having those shrimps for more than a year now, and as far as I can tell they are yamatos. Bought them at $1.50 each so hopefully they didnt morph into ghost shrimps all of a sudden (Digicam not in at the moment or else can take a pic to verify)

Yes whenever the poor angel rests near a shrimp, the shrimp just turns to it and clings on to its fins.

Now the angel looks like a Moorish idol: the bottom fin mostly gone.

And I was afraid the angel would eat the shrimps instead. If it manages to grow up to adult size, I wonder if it will start taking revenge....[]

    Nature,

Perhaps, you're not aware... in Internet Etiquette, typing in caps equates shouting and usually considered rude, and in some cases lead to misunderstanding. Please refrain from shouting in here. Thanks.

    Nature,

I'm not scolding you, only informing you about netiquette. It is not just in AQ, it also applies on all Internet forums, chatrooms, emails etc. When you type in caps, ppl will take what you're saying differently.

Dense planting will definitely help, but the predatory fishes will never stop hunting and sooner or later (most likely much, much, much later) a few of the prey will make a mistake or get caught unawares. Same for my aro planted tank... I reduce the odds by keeping a dense undergrowth and very few prey. Didn't stop it from finding and catching an oto in almost complete darkness.

Yamatos do not play around... they are oppourtunistic scavengers. Had a sick cory once, and the yamatos took every oppourtunity to cling on to it and try to eat it alive. By the time I discovered it, they had already cause a few open wounds. I removed the cory, but couldn't save it.

P.s. Nature, I'm not picking on you... just giving my 2 cents.

Latest news: angel is gone; can't even find its corpse.
The yamatos look more and more menacing to me

ANyway how feasible is it to keep a pair of angels in a 2ft tank with tetras, lampeyes and popondettas?

David, well, when i kept Yamatoes, they never bother any fish, including my badis which are smaller then the yamatoes. Perhaps your fish is weak??? Or maybe your angels are small?
Lyon © I would rather walk a thousand leagues then to see your ugly face

Seriously doubt they are yamatos. Yamatos usually just stay on the plants and munch, or lie on the gravel dead or jump out of tank. Best is u can post picture. Maybe the LFS sell u some other kinds of shrimp but tell u it's yamato.
Another quality, non aquatic-related post from mrs budak!

As most of us mentioned, yamatos are unlikely to be the culprit. Either they are not yamatos or you have very weak angels.

IMO, 2ft tank is too small for angels. Need larger and taller tanks.
