Could be the feeder shrimp. Their defence mechanism is to probe their would be predator by using their long antennae 2 irritate the fish.

or it could be a rare species known Caridinia japonica cf. banzaiangelphagus, a pugnacious type which flourished in Southeast ASia for a short while over 50 years ago and is now believed to be near extinction.

Something like those aggressive otos which suck on other fishes - the Otocinclus von Bismarckensis var. BlutundBoden.

Could be a middle east variant... Caridinia iraqinica sp. sadamhusienus

But this variant is claim to be able to cause mass destruction to the whole aquarium population.

The last two species are often whacked by the Forumsus moderatus for digressing and mis-leading clueless newbies.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Caridinia iraqinica sp. sadamhusienus

I heard this species have many many similar lookalikes. Ichtyologists have tried for many years to pintpoint its habitat but with no success[]

very interesting views indeed for yamotoes.

just to share, i with them as peace loving, hardworking and best of all environmental specialist.
i actually kept about 10 thumb size yamotoes with my GOLDFISH and it seems those goldfish always like to take surprise hits at them when they are busy doing their jobs, making the yamotoes leaping high up in the air (opps i think should be water).
i have also yet to see my yamotoes attack sick fishes, but looks like specialist on dead fishes (very quick and efficient).

side track: i love to see these prawns snatch food from the goldfish, holding the ball of dried food on their forearms (or leg?) and skirting around the tank, almost like a rugby match.

Maybe a hungry yamoto is very angry.

    just sharing and learning

You may be surprised, BUT I think there are some rogue yamatos out there that are real murderers....

So far, I've not seen any in my tank yet, luckily.. But I've been recounted incidents where the yamatos actually hang on to fishes (esp small and weaker ones, not even dying yet)

And they can be pretty devastating to the fishes (with 4 pincers, instead of the ghost's 2)

Hope your altums died of other reasons, and not due to the murderers.....
