A simple QT setup is a tank with just a sponge filter.
Some advocate only an airstone.
Each has its merits.
The first wins out if the medication does not "knock-out" the beneficial bacteria.
The second is "safer" if the medication specifically states it will "knock-out" beneficial bacteria.
Thus, possibly causing secondary issues.
I use one with a spong filter.
Its always good if sick fish eat.
Since its a QT tank you should not have many fish inside.
Maybe a couple of mollies or guppies to keep the beneficial bacteria going.
And if the medication you use will knock-out the beneficial bacteria you can always replace the sponge with an air-stone.
(note: you can just move the sponge to a safe tank to continue.)
This way you QT tank is ready for any emergencies.
