Frequency of changing peat moss

Hi all,
i'm wondering how long can peat moss last for like in a 2x1x1 tank ?

I put the peat moss in a little filter bag and change it out for a new batch when it is about 3/4 empty. I don't know how you keep the peat moss in your tank but mine last a long time (4 to 5 months) before I need to add new material. I would like to see how other people do it. I have often wondered if I am doing it right. So I will be watching this thread closely.
