Light for Marine and

Ok donno whether I asked this before , but I would like to know some things for the marine aquarium,

1) For planted tanks the light output is between 2-3W per gallon if I am not wrong

2) For marine tanks, What is the recommended Wattage. I have seen big tanks just use 2 FLs for example.

3)Lights are Needed for the corals right? Ok..I read in another tread that Blue light is soley for aesthetic purposes? So If I assume a DAY light of 10 hrs a day...like in planted tank, When is the best time and how long do I set the timer for the Blue..light...if I wanna see my tank in both blue and White light

4) Protein Skimmers remove protein, that is the bio load before conversion to Nh3 Nh4 , NO2 and NO3??? Is this device useful for freshwater aquariums.? BUt is the use of it If the NO3 levels still rise??

5) Do i need a calcium reactor for invertabetes? What is that actually? is there any alternative?

6) Does using Sea Water instead of Synthetic Salt Mix do away with need to cycle tanks for 4 weeks??

this sv won't be on 24hr...just for my development test ground only.

- Dun compare w/ fresh water when you intend to go marine. Light requirement for marine is 3-5W per gallon.

- 5W per g will be the best. With just 2FL, you only can keep fishes only tank. Some corals with not require light. If corals non require light, usually is not for starter.

- Blue light only just for aesthetic is ture, corals require white light but best colour temp. is at 10KK and not below. Plant tank only req. 6500K. If you have 5W per G, 6-8 hrs is enough but if you using MH, 5 is more than enough.

- PS only works in saltwater and not fresh due to the water density. To me this eq. is a must in the marine tank and enough you have the best skimmer in the world, you still need to do partial water change. Water change is to control the peremeter level eg. like NH3, PO4, NH3, No3 etc.

- If you have enough $. This eq. is to provide Ca for hard corals. Alternative, use Ca supplement.

- Cycle period using sea water may be shorter but still need cycle. Cycle period at 4weeks is just an est. Some tank may need longer time like 8weeks. You have to test your water peremeter to confrim the cycle period is done.
