    Hi =)

As suggested by the title, i am searching for a canister filter, I am looking for one that i can hook on to my 80L tank

the thing is I may hook the filter onto a chiller later on or even use it on a larger tank i may setup. So it needs quite high a flowrate.

I have budget of $80 and i would like it to last me at least a few years.

Has anyone have a specific brand of filter to reccocmend. Thanks

    Jiajuen
    Cheers,
    JJ

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

$80 is pretty difficult of a budget to work with. The Eden 501 is about $50+ in the market I think, less than $60 if I remember correctly, but it's supposed to work with tanks up to 60L.

If you want a higher flowrate filter, I'd suggest you go for the Eheim filters, maybe 2026/2028, depending on what you want to do eventually.

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

Have looked at eden 501 too small flowrate

The thing is my tank got internal filter but i am getting a canister

    1) to attach to surface skimmer

    2) to attach to chiller in future

3)hook onto tanks like 3ft in future

    4) cause surface aggitation as internal filter hooked to c02 reactor

What is the cost of the cheapest eheim and the cost of one that has flowrate 900lph>

    Thanks
    Cheers,
    JJ

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

80L probably 60x30x45cm tank. You can try to hunt for second hand eheim 2215 (620l/h) and 2217 (1000 l/h). In the future you probably need to get additional filter for 3ft. Both model won't be enough for 3ft especially with chiller and CO2 reactor attached.

You can use the Eheim 2026. I'm currently connecting the outlet of the 2026 to my chiller and FR for my 2ft marine tank.

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

$80 you can try atman filters? but they won't come with media, you'll have to set aside some separate budget for good media in the atman filters.

i think you can find atman filters at petmart@serangoon151 and NA@thomson

    Thanks for the replies

Hmmm... i may look at the eheim 2217 and 2026, heard they will cost less in long run. How much do they cost at LFS?

And how much will the following cost at NA or Y618

    Atman/Ultrajet EF2(3336)
    800 L/H - for tanks up to 380 L
    Atman/Ultrajet EF3(3337)
    1000 L/H - for tanks up to 500 L

Also i saw the tank in Y618 using a jebao canister filter. It is in in my budget range. Is this brand of canister good?

I know that i will probably need two filters for a 4ft i want to set up next year

    Thanks jiajuen

You can try getting the Atman 800 for $75 without media. Set aside another $20 for media.

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

Between jebao and atman which is more reccomended. And of all canisters filter besides eheim, which is less likely to have O-ring or air lock problems?

I recently got a resun cy20 mini canister filter for my 20. It started leaking when placed below the tank so im looking for a replacement o-ring now...

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

there is no doubt that eheim is reliable, but i also see a lot of spare parts from eheim available being sold in lfs.

is there a meaning to this?
just want to know which is the better of the 2 evils.
    thnks

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

eheim can last very long (5 years + or even 10 years) and when equipment run 24 hours for very long, it tend to have ware and tear problem. This is where spare part come in handy.

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

    +1 for eheims

reliable, peace of mind, energy saving, good resale value and availability of spares

the higher initial outlay is definitely worth it.

As per their website, the Eheim Pro 2 2026 flowrate is 950 lph, 2028 is 1050 lph. Eheim Pro 2226 and 2228 matches the 2 Pro 2 filters.

    Price-wise, I'm not sure.

    Re: recommendation for canister filter

There are other canister brands that you might want to consider, other than Eheim, Atman or Jebao.

    Hydor, Fluval, Tetra

Of these 3, my uncle used to own an old Fluval model, and it worked fine. I've seen the Hydor in action in one of the LFS. Looks good and performs well too. Tetra, not yet, but the design is sleek and nice.

bro go for atman. i think the spare parts are more readily available since the design is based on eheim's and some of the spares are interchangeable.
