Could be tank conditions, but in my tank, I switched 3x 36W to Hitachi EBT and lots of brush algae appeared in my tank, where previously I had almost no algae.

    And I didn't even have high light output,total of 6x36W for a 5x2x2 tank.

I has been using 15W Arcadia Freshwater 7500K lamp for two years without any problem.

IMO, although the initial investment for these branded tubes is high, you will realize it is money well spent in the long run as it will last longer than cheaper FL tubes (Despite of many people advocate tube changing for every six months).

I had used Hitachi EBT before but i still prefer Arcadia freshwater lamp as the latter is absolutely brighter and whiter.

For Arcadia Original Tropical tube, i think you guys can skip this.

PL tube is a good choice as well but somehow i find the colour tempature (6500K)very unpleasing to my eyes and it is hotter than FL.

I may try out the ADA NA tube (8000K) very soon.

    i think it's the $$ issue here

hitachi ebt are FL40SS/EX-D/37-A marked on the ends of the tube

vican's case is typical for any light upgrading
unless your tank is densely populated with fast growing plants, you're likely to see algal growth when upping the ante lightwise

U can only obtain such High wattage only w PL rite. W FL u can only get 15 watts X 3= 45 watts. No space to house so many tube mah. With so many tubes, wont the water temp b very high? I only got one tube only, wat is the consiquences?

    Hi,

can advice which Pasir Ris Fish Farm you bought your 1.5ft lights?

Recently i just bought NEC 15w from C328 which the lady owner claim to kills algae. [tried to get the Hitachi one but they dun sell, and i have actually ask a few light shop around my hse but they only sell 2ft lights].

The NEC light is veri ex ~$13... dun knw whether worth it or not for my 2ft tank.

    Can advice.

    Thanks.

If the light really kill algae, so many of us here will not be fretting over algae issues.

IMO, just go buy a normal daylight tube for your tank.

Unless it's a UV light. Spidey, make sure it isn't a UV light... not good for the fish, plants and you too.

The colour of UV tubes are blue/black... not white... totally diffent from normal FL tubes.

If it is white tube, it is safe to use... just that don't expect it to kill algae.

Spidey, I noticed you keep doing duplicated-post (i've already deleted the repeated posts). Please click submit just once and wait for the post to appear (usually less then a minute). Thanks.

I have not seen Osram Biolux selling myself. But I think Allen1971 has bought it before maybe he can advice. It is gonna cost more because it is a full spectrum tube (most other normal tubes are tri-phospor).
    ----------------
I have a couple of Osram biolux tubes sitting in my store... haven't tried them yet. Will be switching over in June/July period. Currently I am still using my HEBT tubes which have served me well. Will probably post my findings on the biolux tubes (if any) 1-2 months after the tubes are installed.
