When you have such a large tank, you don't have to change 50% water weekly. Why do you have to change so much water at one go?
Hi..have a general question, just curious on what you guys do with the changed water. Heard some guys uses these water to clean their filters and tank stuff or water their potted plants or wash the toilet..etc. If your tank is not so big then not much water gets change. I am talking about those with large tanks say 5 ft or 6 ft. 50% WC weekly will come to about over 1000 ltrs of water a month. Any geniusesout there wish to share their ideas on making these waste water useful, other then feeding our toilet bowls..

I am using the changed-water to feed to the plants and flowers
that my wife grow. Although she said that the water smells
fishy, but it is doing well for the plants with added "nutrients".

some people use river water to wash clothes, i guess you can use WC water to wash if you dare![]()
Well the old tank water can be used to water your household plants. If not you can probably rig up a hydroponic system to clear the waste. You get to grow your own veggies, with free nutrients courtesy of your fish.
Some pond owners have a section of the filtration system that incorporates a planted bed, where they grow some marsh plants. These plants help to clear out excess nutrients in the pond water. Same can be applied to fish tanks too.

In addition to the usual watering of plants and cleaning of filters, I have recently started to use mine as the water for my hospital tank to reduce the shock on the fish being quarantined.
Agreed, there might be a slight risk of transferring bacteria but, as the other fish are still swimming in the water in the main tank I guess it is not such a risk. To me the bonus, is that the sick fish is not subjected to 100% new water and possible ammonia spikes. I also transfer a bio filter from the main tank at the same time.
I have been practising this for a few weeks now, and the fish do seem to recover faster.

I totally agree with this..
I won't feel comfortable washing the car with WC water.
Bro..your or hers?..I think its still OK to use it for clothes washing only it feels like, you know the feeling you get when drinking NEW water...after awhile you will get use to it..
all of the family's, including hers also.
ahh, you rather wash clothes with WC water than use it for car wash
my friend use NEWater to WC betta bowl, the betta![]()
Watering plants, and I only do 10% WC. Im curious, is anyone drinking it?
That'll be some courageous soul to drink fish tank water.
And yes, I don't think it's wise to wash your car with the WC water. The waste products in the WC water might affect your car's coat of paint, and not forgetting that occasionally, fish tank water does have a smell of its own. So if you wash your car with the WC water alone, it might just end up smelling weird.![]()
