Just Purchased Atman UV-11W lamp for my 4x2x2 tank. I got 3 questions:

    1. How long will it normally takes to clear the green water?

    2. Is it correct to connect in the sequence of filter then CO2 reactor then UV-11W then chiller?

    3. When switched on, is it safe to look at the light blue light at the transparent connectors (where the pipes connect)?

    thank you.

Re: Questions On Atman UV-11W Light

    Hi,

    1. No experience, but I would think a couple of days
    2. Doesn't really matter whether it is before or after chiller / co2 reactor
    3. Yes, but not too long. The warning you're reading about refers to the exposed UV tubes, that means, if you were to remove the UV sterilizer's casing... now, that, you should avoid looking at.

Thanks for the reply. It's almost 48 hours after installing the UV, and I got to say that the green water is slowly going away. Can finally see my fishes and yamato!

Hi Bro, you should certainly see some results within 48 hours.

I recently fitted an 18W UV to my 3ft tank and was so impressed by the results within 24 hours, that I have now fitted a 36W UV to my 4x2x2, with the same spectacular results.

Perhaps I more kiasu with bulb size, but the results far exceeded my expectations ... you also should enjoy the same.
    Best regards

Re: Questions On Atman UV-11W Light

After 24 hours daily for the 5th day, and I finally see crystal clear water for the first time in 2 months of setup! I can only say this UV light is really amazing.

The waltage is recommended by the lady boss in NA, so I just take it. Now turning on together with the lighting and CO2 timing. Is this what you doing too, or turning on only when necessary or 24/7 ?

Am also a little bit concern about UV radiation, will it be safe to do work in the tank, like punning the plants with the UV light on?

Bro, you should leave your UV on all the time your filter is running, the only real reason to turn it off is when you turn off the filter, that is because with no water flowing, the heat from the bulb will build up, and could damage the unit.

Oh, one other time to turn it off, is if you are medicating your tank, but you can still let the water flow through the unit.

There is no chance of UV radiation leaking into the tank as the bulb is totally enclosed within the unit, so you are safe pruning the plants.

I have not installed a UV in my heavily planted tank, only the fish tanks, I am not sure if the UV will reduce the effectiveness of the plant nutrients, you will have to monitor that yourself and make a judgement call.

    Happy viewing
    Best regards
