Today got a phone call from my mum that my eihem discharge hose came off and flood the house.
Luckily there was no lost of life.

However some of my plants dry up, will be going teo tmr to find new plants.

I afraid that the biological bacterial in my eihem die off as i think that the incident had happened some time before my mum came back from work?

Is there any measures i must take note now?[]

Which part of the pipe that burst off? U can use those metal clip that can be tighten where the rubber hose meet the plastic part 2 prevent future flooding. Shud be on sale at those neighbourhood hardware store. Bring a sample of your eheim tube 2 the store 2 get the correct size clip.

Yeah i did try that before but stop when it turn corroded.
The pipe that come out is from the dicharge line of my eihem pump.
In the end, 95% of the water is pumped out leaving just enough water is cover my discus.

Another thing 2 do is to push in deeper the rubber hose to the plastic pipe. That's all that I can think right now. Did u trim the rubber hose to level or did u cut the rubber hose at an angle? Trim the rubber hose flat iso at an angle. Check your eheim hose end n trim them. check all of them.

I think there are some people who make a small hole maybe about 3/4 way in the inlet tube. This will break the siphon on the inlet tube when the water level fall below the hole. This way, you can prevent totally draining out the tank.

BTW, was the pump of the filter ok after all the water drain out?

I am puzzled how your tube got loose; they are normally very grippy. The tube could be too short that cause the tension or "pulling" or you have the wrong tube size...

Easy cure is strap the hose end tight with a cable tie.

Actually the pipe was connected to my co2 reactor but it was quite loose and there no way to push in further. And also what angle you mean at cutting the pipe?

The pump is running now but i think that the motor will be heated up during the hours absent of water cooling and hence shorten life span

    Thanks for your advice

If the hose size is right, need not change. Just strap the hose's end tight with a cable tie, very effective.

Had a similar incident once, the inlet to my canister filter came off. Wasn't so much worried about my tank but more worried about flooding the entire house, not nice to have 400L of water running all over the house. I have since thought of an idea but yet to get it done, perhaps you can fit a tap to the inlet and oulet near the tank so that when something like this happens u can quickly shut the tap. As an interim measure I used one of those metal clips and still working fine, no corrosion as yet.

Squall, when u cut the hose, do a clean cut. Trim the end of the hose tube n place it at a flat surface. If the hose is standing straight( of course u need 2 hold the hose ) that's good. But if your hose is not level or is leaning 2 1 side, then trim it again. Are u using the external reactor?

    Bfg,
The hose end is cut in straight end. It is a external reactor.
I have try tying a cable tie to the hose and it holding quite firmly but right now I am considering whether to get a longer hose as the present one is just long enough from the pump to the reactor and there a bend before entering the reactor(Less water flow).

    Thanks

When you replace the hose you might want to try beverage line which many hardware stores cary. It is a PVC tubing with thick walls and reinforced with threads. It is very good to run longer lengths with large bends nad prevents kinking.

In addition to the cable clamp, you could also get a hose pipe clamp made out of stainless steel. They often carry them with irrigation equipment. THey will last, are easy to adjust and do not corrode.

When I have smaller, but similar incidents it inspired me to get a large plastic storage box (i.e. one for under the bed) and use it to line my cabinet. It will contain the first 30 gallons of any spill.
