I presume you dont on your air con 24hrs a day? That's not good... cos you're gonna have crazy temperature fluctuations...

My ORIGINAL plan was to switch off the lights in the day, and only on them at night, such that the air con will cancel out the heat produced by the lighting, such that temp is nearly constant

BUT... after 2 nights of repulsively lousy sleep sue to bright light and noise... I gave up on the idea... ( there's just so much I'm willing to sacrifice and sleep isnt on the agenda...)

Okae... next... get the prizm... i think it's pretty good...and it fit's your tanks capacity just nicely... cos it's rated at 90gallons i think... and your tank should be 55gallons... got more power so you can overstock! Hahahaz...
*lao jiaos will kill me for saying this*

Get the PLs lahz... hahaz... no point combining lor... hahaz...

Side note: Ehz pple I bought this mushrooms which have green luminescent knobs on them! Real cool! hahaz... and also I've decided to keep Lotsa and lotsa polyps! Call me the POLYP MAN... Hahahaz...

Skimmer will only remove the proteins and not the nitrate levels.. ice..
Polyps are nice.. can consider button polyps as well..

btw, guys, the orange tinted mushrooms are producing off-springs.. i noticed a small one under the main mushrooms.. me is now a mushroom father.. hahaha..[]

    Pls help
    My setup
    A 3 feet 150litre tank
A eheim classic 2215 canister external filter
A under gravel system with 3 inch coral chip
    25 kg of live rock
    Ocean free 2 x 36W PL(1 white and 1 blue)

I feel that my setup is insufficient or wrong specially for the filter system i used.
i got the canister from friz
Need advise from the expert here to help me in identifying the problem here.
    Tight on budget.
really like to change to a sump system but my present tank had no hole on the bottom or the side.
would like to make full use of what i had in hand without spending too much.

    had spend $4 x 25kg=$100 (live rock)
$100 (salt, coral chip, hydrometer, undergravel tray)
    $130 (ocean free PL light)
$100 (fish, some coral, etc )
    total = $430 - $500

Appreciate for any help/advise from u guys

    1.i had a clown fish(3"), 2 strip damsels, 1 yellow fin damsel, 1 wrasses
Dead fish = 1 yellow butterflies, 1 mandarin, 3 clown(yellow small ones), 1 crap, 1 yellow fin blue damsel.

The dead fishes mostly were being attack to thier death by three damsels and the big clown.

i wonder what causing the aggrasiveness of the fish?
is it due to the poor water condition or the arrangement of the rock?

    2. where is PetMart? is the price reasonable?

i will try to take a oic of my tank to show u on my next posting.

    tx

Firstly, u did not give enuff info, Don.. difficult for us to id.. is the setup new? what are the water parameters? eg: pH, kH, NO3, NH3???
U are merely telling us what u have but did not indicate such crucial details.. thus, me find it hard to help.. provide more info..
Petmart is located in S'goon North.. closed on monday i think.. prices wise is one of the lowest in the LFS....
Clownfish.. which species? clownfish is general term.. there are species that are docile and some extremely territorial...
Generally, damsels are fierce and territorial by nature..

hi don.. 1st u shld really throw away the undergravel filter.detris will get trapped in the UG n cause an explosion
of no3 in months to come.
olso get abt 4 bags of C1 grade sand from petmart n make a DSB(deep sand bed) at least 3.5in. after tt dun buy any fish for 1 month n let the DSB seed.
the DSB will help to break down no3 n other harmful stuff......but do not disturb or expose the bottom area of the DSB if not hydrogen sulphate will be released n ur system will crash.

Spiff's right... If possible, try to get rid of the UG filter... I think I explained in one of the threads in here b4...

Also... fish aggresiveness is probably due to the fact that you have insufficient refuge for your fish. 25kg is simply insufficient. I personally started off with 40kg, and that wasnt enough for my fish, so I added and added until I have about 65 kg in your tank now. Life rock is expensive, so you could use other things to act as a base, and top it off with more attractive life rock.

Otherwise, net out your aggresive fishes, add the MOST delicate fish you're planning to get, and work down from there... ie most delicate to least delicate. That way, your delicate fishes can have a head start compared to the damsels

Dont feel dishearted, I think all of us here have had a taste of failure... Know what fish should be bought and what shouldnt (eg. the butterfly and the mandarin)

    Good luck! =)

Btw: Where did you get your PLs? My Coralife 50/50s only cost me 100+... I think you may be overcharged...

thanks for all the helpful reply.

My clownfish is CLARKII (it seem pretty aggresive even to it own kind)
So far i check my ph(8-8.5) and NO3(0.1). They are within the range.
i bought my light from china town(opposite the market)
i had run my system for about two months. b4 that i had left my water for 1 month

    1. How does DSB work?
    2. i planning to disconnect the tube to the undergravel. i cant remove the tray as everything is running.
    3. i dunno what grade my sand belong to? can i leave my sand to act as a DSB?
    4. where is PetMart located in Serangoon North? Which ave or block?

i trying to borrow a digital camera to take a pic of my tank. Will post it here for all to comment.

Really loved to join u guys for gathering or trip down to fish farm.

    thx

    Hi, everybody

I am a beginner to aquatic hobby. I need your advice.

I want to set up a aquatic tank at my home, the size of the tank is 180cm x 50cm x 45 cm. The total weight can be as heavy as 700-750 kg. As I stay in a high rise flat, do I need to obtain approval from relevant authority to put such a heavy item in my home ?

If I have to, which department?

    Thanks

    Edwin

6ftx2x2 tank is fine. just make sure that it is located near a structural beam (those that u cannot knock down)
