i'm sorry to disappoint you Adrian, but not many tanks were chosen for Amano's personal comment, Robert's tank being 1 of the selected few!

No room for pity or sympathy- just do your best for next year Robert.
Robert, i think Amano said white sand can be used but some other judges disagreed.
To get all the judges to like your tank is one heck of a job. Just one guy that gives you a barely pass mark is bad enough.
I think Amano is still in favour of white sand for some types of scapes like Yeo's with a little road leading over the hill. Even comment in contest book about one scape that should have use white sand instead of planting it.
I agree with Sim that the works singled out by Amano tend to be those that got judged in his opinion too harshly or left out. Some got award also. haha. A few tank are questionable how they got into the top 100. However every year same story. Life goes on.Do better next year!

This one will be difficult my curent scape like crapbut too pity to tear it down before mature
I can't remember the exact, was trying to making up with the translation... you know what I mean. If I remember or understanding it corectly, he said that white will have tough judgement because dirty easily, difficult to maintain, difficult to sustain for long term... or something like that
But I guess little road or river should be ok because dirt will make it more natural ...![]()
Hey Colin, give Robert a break. 3ft tank can't compare with a -5-6ft tank lah.
How will Adrian feel?![]()
You can if you dare to fail - Stan Chung
LOL... I feel nothing.Try and do a 2ft tank or below to see how difficult it can be(of course i knew you had the experienced), see whether you can achieve below 100, William can tell you more on that as this has always being his dreams.
![]()
Anything above 3ft is possible, the space given is so much compare to 2ft and below. Ask yourself, based on previous IAPLC record(i knew you sure had those past IAPLC booklet
), how many below 2ft tank can achieve below 100 as compare to >3ft tank?
The ratio is HUGE! Btw those winner in BIG tank also had their small tank submitted in IAPLC and ranked far away, you know who i mean...
So even those winner can ranked far away for their small tank, do you think it is easy to do in small tank?
![]()
Btw did i mention "Judge 7" gave lowest to those small tank, had 77 out of 200, he just loves big tank. Sigh!!! The rest of the judges gave >100, only he.............
Dont ask me to do a big tank, unless you want to contribute!!! LOL...

Great work Robert. I personally feel it should score better. Very nicely done. I remember you show it to me before ada sg submission and i am like "wow". Dont worry because you will do better in 2010 because we have a team to gun each other down till we do better.
As for small tanks, i think the highest score is faao which is 10. Until now, no one come close. It is still my dream to do better with my small tank! Haha!
As for big tanks, they have their own difficulty too. As for myself, i cannot say for sure i will do better if i am given a larger tank. With whatever you have, give your best shot!

William
Nevertheless, Shadow and the rest (Note: Shadow's thread) is Singapore best representation in terms of his experience, artwork, passion and involvement for the past few years. Despite living in Singapore, and a very busy schedule, they took part in Aquarama and ADA competition.
I hope it will help to promote awareness and encourage more people to come on board to play planted tank.
And I will continue to egg on Adrian to take on 5-6 feet. Sorry. 3 and even 4 feet is puny la. stanchung is right ..
Lastly, to other forum memebers, Shadow needs more feedback. Please continue.. I have done mine![]()

You better not retire till you are at least top 3

Hey Adrian, retire? You make sound like work.
You sound very happy to be Singapore No1. 2009. Can you be Singapore No1 in 2010?
William and Robert are going to try to take it whether you enter or not. Right guys?
That's the spirit and passion for the hobby!
For me I think without the competition I will let the tank overgrow and rot...![]()

Whether to be no1 or not in Singapore doesnt bother me at all, i just achieve what i want to target, i will never be stress by others and surrounding. You need to set a goal, not necessary to be no1, there's no forever no1 in the world btw, that is really going to stress you out if you always want to be no1.![]()

A bit of out topic but i really hope everyone can aim to do well because of the passion and love for aquascaping. Learn and improve yearly like robert. 500+ to 100+. You look at his old works, i can see the drastic improvement despite i cant say he is damn good. Adrian should aim higher, dont just do 1 and retire. All effort down to the drain. Apart from ranking, there are many fun things in aquascaping. Just like having some chicken rice, ba tuk teh, coffee session etc. Make lots of friends, go to ada party, aqurama, field trip. Haha! That's the fun part of it. Agree?
