Honestly I don't think any additive form of CO2 is cheaper than using a CO2 tank.

It may be cheaper to start off, but I'd recommend to consider getting a CO2 tank from NA, even a small one with a manual regulator to start with. You have better control over the CO2 input and you spend less in the long run.

    Really all you need are:
    CO2 Tank
    Regulator
    Diffuser
    (Bubble counter)

Oh.. How many liters is the CO2 tank? I was quoted another $50 for a 2L and electronic solenoid, cheaper brand I suppose.. But I think a electronic solenoid is still better even cheaper brands cause it will be a lot more easy for you to set your bpm I've heard, also, you get to install the plug into a timer, enabling you to set the on/off time for automated on/off of CO2, which is what I plan to do..

a solenoid valve does not enable you to control the flowrate (bpm/bps). it is an on/off valve that is controlled electrically; usually with a timer.

to control flowrate, you'll need a needle valve.

I am not kiasu, I am kiasi. (scare to die)

As IT personnel, I like to have failed over. And so.....I have CO2 tank! Its empty now. What then?

I have CO2 reactors X2! Make your own CO2. Dirty job, mix mix mix, it doesn't go kaboom, still supplies CO2 provided you do your homework to change it each time the CO2 bubbles are dead.

I have Carbon Dioide tablet! (This is how it spell on the box, not typo) Bought this for $4.50, 36 tablets. Do I feed these to the fish? No...you just drop it into the water, and wait for it to dissolve, and no...its not like you dissolve calcium tablets and drink it, its not that instant.

So there you have it! 3 mode of CO2. Please clap for this mad guy.

Frankly if you ask all the hobbist, tablets are not sufficient to archive the pearling effect. CO2 reactors, too much of these, if you not careful, you can overflow some of the fluids into the tank, causing some pollution there.

CO2 with regulator is still the way to go by. If you are not able to buy the tank now, you can work towards that goal. It's like buying a pc with a poor man's budget. Get parts over different time, then at the end of the year, you combined all, feeling satisfy that you finally have a decent one that is built by yourself.

This also give you time to think how you want to design or decor. E.g. how do you want the CO2 to be dissolve in your tank with the CO2 tank. What kind of tubes would you buy? The soft or the hard type. I do not have much on the technical part since I was introduce by my friend few years back then too, into fishy hobby.
