Possible to chill 2 tanks with one 1/10 artica?

Hi everyone, I am running eheom 2211on 1.5ft cube and 2215 on 2ft. How to connect lines so I can chill both tanks?

You can try it using those Y connecter for hose. The schematic will be something like this ( both inlet -> Y Connector -> thru 2211 and 2215 -> chiller -> Y connector -> outlet of the tank) just remember to make the outflow of the 1.5 feet tank much smaller than the 2 feet tank.

Using Y connector more water may be drained from one tank and more may be emptied into the other tank even with smaller and a larger hose. It is not 100% in flow = out flow for one tank. Sometimes pressure is more on one hose.
( correct me on this, as im not very sure )

But if your tanks are one above the other. You could try using sump system to transfer water from upper tank to lower tank and back to upper tank.

Upper tank > overflow > lower tank > filters > chiller > upper tank

Again correct me if this cannot work

yup, i agree with jiajuen900. it is going to be very difficult to get exactly the same in/out flow for each tank. eventually, because of changes in the filter throughput, the water flow might fluctuate and you end up overflowing one tank and emptying the other.

unless of course, you use the overflow suggestion so that bottom tank --> filter 1 --> filter 2 --> chiller --> upper tank --> overflow to bottom tank.

if connecting both filters in series, it is recommended to use only one in operation i.e. turn off the lower-rated one and remove the impeller, leaving the more powerful motor to drive the equipment setup.

Haha, thats why i said decrease the flow rate in the smaller tank. My way might have to do some trail and error before perfecting the flowrate of both tank.

Or, instead of removing the lower powered filter, hook it on any one of the tanks as they will be connected via overflow system, therefore still filtering two tanks. Use it as extra accelaration, or surface skimmer, co2 reactor, etc....

For safety and ease of mind, add a sump tank to connect the 2 tank together.

Tank 1 and tank 2---sump tank---canister filter---chiller---tank 1 and tank 2.

you can consider using float valves at the outputs; after splitting the output from the chiller.
if one tank (say tank a) is "taking" more than its fair share of the water, the water level will rise and closes the valve. water will be diverted to the other tank (tank b). after a while, the water level in tank a will fall and the valve will open.
this arrangement should be self regulating. but it is not elegant as you'll have additional equipment.

Another way to go about is to use 2 tanks with overflow, whether internal or external and connect it to a sump tank, doesn't need to be the same size as the main tank, as long as it can accommodate some amount of water.

Tank with overflow x 2 ---sump---canister filter---chiller---tank with overflow x 2.

Both tank with overflow compartment will itself regulate the water level in each tank no matter what the flow is as any additional water will naturally flow back into the sump. The return tube end must not be immersed below the water level as it will create a suction and suck off extra water into the sump which may cause it to overflow. But if need be, the hose end must have a small hole drilled to one side to break the siphon effect should electricity supply is cut off.

The sump tank can be a smaller tank size than the main tank or it could even be a container but care must be taken that it could hold extra water volume should the electricity supply is cut off and a siphon effect is created.

I connected my two tanks together with one chiller, I just made sure the tanks were the same level and water equalizes, no problems in 12 months. I removed the green hoses as had some clear tubing made from connector bits and pieces from 328, these can just be seen in the pictures.

Wouldn't that cause a serious decrease in the flow rate? I don't think the chiller would be able to function efficiently if you connected the canisters in series and left one running passively.
