Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and the whole chiller thing as well. I have just bought and set up a new Teco TR20. The problem I am having is that the thermometer in my tank says 27 degrees but the chiller says 25.5 degrees. In this way the chiller is not going to kick and start cooling the water. Could anyone help me out with this issue ? Thanks in advance.

I have a TR10 and only have done this once a few years ago, here are the instructions from the manual which shares the same functions as the TR20:

The chiller reads the temperature from the water passing through it, a thermometer reading directly from the tank may be reading a different temperature depending on your specific setup. Use this function if you would like to match the chiller’s thermometer to a separate thermometer.
1 Press and hold “SET” for 10 seconds.
The display will show a value of 1 or 1.5 (do not change this setting)
    2 Press “SET” again
The water temperature (not the set point) will be displayed.
3 Push up or down arrow to change temperature.
After five seconds, the setting is entered into memory and the display will return to full brightness. The unit will now function normally with the new calibrated temperature.

    Re: Teco Chiller Temp Setting

I was just wondering if my chiller is working properly, here are the tank specs to the best of my knowledge.

    Tank:4x2x2 feet. (12mm glass)
    Filter : Eheim Pro 3
    Lights : 4x54 watt T5 for 10 hours
    Chiller : teco TR20.
Room temp : about 28-30 degrees depending on the day i guess.

The thing is after setting the chiller temp at 25 degrees and the tempreature differential at 1.5 degrees, the chiller seems to kick in maybe 2- 3 times a day for about 20-25 mins . Is this normal ? Have I not done something right ? Or maybe I am just thinking too much into it ?

Chiller activation 2-3 times a day for 20-25 mins sounds about correct, so would not worry.

    Re: Teco Chiller Temp Setting

Just got my Teco chiller today. I also noticed a 0.5 degrees celcius difference from the chiller's reading and my thermometer's reading. I followed the steps to calibrate my chiller's temperature reading to the thermometer.
Wondering why did Teco input this function?
Could it be that Teco understand the problem of difference of water in chiller vs water in tank, hence it gives users an option to calibrate the temperature on the chiller to that in the tank? If so, I'd give Teco a thumbs up!

Yeah, the actual temperature in the tank tends to be different from the temperature in the chiller... what some users do to get better accuracy is to connect or DIY an external temperature probe so that the chiller follows the tank temperature.

Setting and calibrating the chiller temperature to the tank temperature also works too.
