I boil my drift wood and wash them before putting into the tank. Suggest you take them out to wash and clean periodically till it goes off. I dont know what it is but dont think they are harmful to your plant and fishes. This is by my experience as I had them and had to take the wood out a few times to wash and scrub.
I have that problem too. But it never went away. Think have to wash. but it will come back again I think/
I had them too. Those look to be fungus, tough harmless to fish, quite unsightly. I did what the others did- boil it and it never came back. The fungus came from the tiny spores attached to the wood
Isn't there remnants of the spores in the water? Did u change the water as well?
best to take dw out and give it a good scrumb...its fungus.

I was told that you can remove it by soaking it in hot water, then sun dry it. Because the inner part of the wood is rotten.
i have those white stuff on my bog wood with plants. how to soak in hot water? if so i must untie all my plants which is a hassle. any other solution?
1. Use hot water.
2. Optional use bleach but must wash your wood very very very thoroughly.
3. When removing drift wood, be very very very gentle with the water current, turn off the filter if necessary. Why? The white spots will drop off thus water pollution. It is very irritating and very hard to clear off.
So what happen if it does pollute? Use a plastic cup (big one), press against the water surface gently, let water flow at very slow speed into the cup. The particles will then be "suck" into the cup.
put some sucker inside to do the job. Oto or others.
Treat your fishes like your baby. The sign and symptom is the same but cannot talk.
Go nature
If your "fungus" is still not gone. Do this.
Take the driftwood out, ge a knife or better still, a wood carving tool, and chip off the affected part. The "fungus" should not return.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
I think might as well change the driftwood. Decomposition. The wood looks old. If it is really that old, you might find protruding parts falling off easily just using fingers, like loose teeth.
Scrapping is if you are really emtionally attached to this wood. Feels sayang (pity) to discard it. I think along the way we feel this way too. Discard things and feel sayang about it.
Had the same problem too. On light for long period of time can be the cause also.
I never had that problem with store bought driftwood. I did have it once when I got a piece from someone that collected it from a lake. He said he boiled it but I put it in a bucket first as it had dried out again and would not sink right away. A couple of days later it had that same stuff on it. I tossed the wood out. Maybe I should have boiled it some more, but that stuff looked really nasty.
It may also help to improve water circulation over your DW. Stagnant areas of the tank tends to encourage the growth of fungus
use shrimps espeically malayan ,they will eat away the fungus
Okay I saw one DIY version. The storekeeper (no longer around), pick some wood, they look like freshly fallen pieces, not the decomposed kind. Then he uses this 2 feet tank, feed the water with Black water, losta them. The wood are left in the black water for some time (more than a month). Thats he DIY.
Wash it with care before u put them into water. My driftwood never have this !
