I dont think thats too many plants, you may want to add carpet plants even.
What are those white stuff on the foreground?

oh ok, any recommendation? those white stuff are old sea mud. initially, when i was setting up the tanks i forgot to add the old sea mud 1st. so no choice have to add it after i add the substrate.

whats your tank setup? co2, lights, temperature?
popular foreground carpet plants are tenellus, HC, hairgrass, riccia or mosses.

wow thats quite a variety lol. hmm i used flourish excel as an additive for my previous setup. what lighting and filter are you using? saw the eheim wordings, expensive lol.
hmm, i see some angelfishes. are they platinums? you might wanna know that they do hunt smaller fishes. my brother's autumn angels finished off all my neon tetras. and eventually my cardinals as well.

i think i'm in big trouble, i kept using sms lingo ahhh. .

anyway, yup i didn't know what kind of plants are they, so just pick and go haha. erm, my lighting is 2x24wT5 with individual switch and my canister filter is seond hand. as for the angel fish, i don't know what kind of angel, bought from C328. haha. will remove them once the tank is cycle or stable.

this is my 1st planted tank, i will redo the tank once i'm familiar with plants.

Angelfish might be a bad choice now as they will uproot your japanese hairgrass.

round thing in the middle is moss ball.
i think the right leafy plants are amazon swords, and the tall thin ones are vallis spiralis

Re: My new messy low tech setup

if the angels have a yellow coloring to their top fins, with little horizontal blue-ish stripe across the fin. the body's silverish. most likely you have a platinum. only singapore has them if i am not wrong. made by us or something.

hmmm you might not want to use angels to cycle the tank next time. they are sensitive to the water parameters from my experience. anyway, they are pretty intelligent fishes with characters. pair them up wisely and you would have a super fun tank. By the way, that looks like a bit too much fishing line. and they sell dark colored, super thin ones at fish shops for like 5 bucks plus per reel.

Re: My new messy low tech setup

Whackytgt: ya i notice that too however when i try to catch them they will just hide behind the plant so it's quite a challenge to catch them out so my temporary solution is to plant the hairgrass deeper hopefully the hairgrass stays that way haha.

    alas: thanks for the ID

P.albert: erm, i notice some of my angel's top fin is pinkish in colour. i tried to take a photo of them but once they see the camera they will go for hiding. anyway, will try to post a picture of them. is plantinum angel fish very common in singapore?

hehe will take note of that, currently they are eating and swimming very well, just that they're shy sometimes and they will hide behind the plant. haha. ok will try to "rescape" my messy tank once i'm familiar with plants, hopefully will come out nice.

i am not sure about how common. at one point in time quite a few of the LFS in my area had them in stock. not sure about now. maybe you can try snapping the picture when your room lights are off, and the tank lights are on. cover with ur finger any blinking lights the cam produces. all the best, mine is pretty messy too lol

hey ciaossu, thought i would post the picture here.
its a moss tank. a pretty messy mos tank ahahah. threw the cross in for the fun of it. please dont be bother by it.
the spiky, christmas, java, and i think willow are tied to the bog wood. the charcoal and those not tied, are flame moss.
plan to let them slowly un-ball themself, its happening very very slowly. the gex soil's erm, way too much i know hahaha.
so yup, here it is, my simple super low budget moss/shrimp tank.

Re: My new messy low tech setup

thanks for sharing, In my opinion, it would look nicer if the gex soil is lower. your shrimp must be happy with so many moss inside the tank haha. overall i think your tank is nice and simple.

Re: My new messy low tech setup

YA, the gex soil is double the height it should be hahah. didnt realise it till i emptied the bag. tank was on the floor you see.
hmm ya i guess so, they are crawling all over, in and out of the flame moss.
would be adding a small moss wall or pillar soon.

Re: My new messy low tech setup

Its not your hand. The fish are moving faster than the camera. My tetras are even harder to catch on camera, yours is fine. ^_^ taken in total darkness so you get reflection too...nice to look at it..hee hee.

Re: My new messy low tech setup

guess your camera is on auto? hmm, to prevent the reflection, try cuping the lense while taking the picture. meaning, your hand is pressing against the glass and the top of the lens when you are taking the picture. light bouncing off certain areas of your body and camera, wouldn't be reflected like that. dont apply too much pressure on the lens if its on auto focus though. yup.

    anyway, nice pictures
