I have bought a pack of Glossostigma elatinoides from Petmart at $6. The root system are quite establish and its difficult to plant them in the foreground. Anyone can advise how to plant them so as to achieve a well covered foreground without the root expose out in the open.

Hi minnow, trim the roots first.. it helps promote root growth.. remember to plunge them deep into the gravel, exposing only the leaves.. that way, reduce the chance for it to get dislodge

    Oh yeah,

A good pair of tweezers would ease planting Glosso.

What's the growing requirements for Glosso?
For those who have success, what is your kH, pH and lighting like?
I just started planting them in a new 2.5 ft tank with 144W of lights, pH = 7, kH = 3.
How long does it take to spread like a carpet?

    Hi guys,

What is the temperature and light requirement for glosso ? I've a 2 ft tank with 54W of light. Not much success with hairgrass as my temp is at 29-30.5 deg. and their growth are so retarded that BBA overwhelmed them. But I got them cheap at $2 for a palm-full from Capricorn. Very tempted to try glosso.

    Thanks,

    Cheers,
    Peter

the last time i had glosso, my temp was ard 27-28 and Ph at 6.8.. didnt have much trouble growing them except for the collection of dirt over a long period of time... I planted them at an interval of 1cm a part (strain not in bunch), took ard 3-4wks to see growth from them... IMHO, glosso need alotsa patience

    Thanks Simon.

I really love to have a lawn effect foreground. I've tried hairgrass, tenellus and now riccia. Riccia is doing well except that it is a little artificial as they are all meshed up. In the past, my tenellus which is supposedly to be fast growers died and overwhelmed with BBA ... same fate as my hairgrass. Looks like glosso is even more challenging !
