Confused....Plant nutrients? K?Ca?Mg???

Hi all,

With all the nutrient terms going around like MgSO4, Ca, Mg, K affects ratio...blah blah... I am quite overwhelm by all these terms. Is there a someone who could give a brief overview of these "plant nutritional terms" to newbies like me and how maybe paint it in layman terms?

any help is appreciated.
